Rising Star Tsunoda’s Snub for Red Bull Seat Sparks Outrage Among F1 Circles
Surprise over the omission of a top-performing F1 racer from discussions to fill Sergio Perez's spot
"It's baffling that he's not being considered for the other Red Bull position"
There has been astonishment regarding the omission of Yuki Tsunoda as a potential replacement for Sergio Perez.
Perez embarked on 2024 facing intense scrutiny to maintain his prized position behind the wheel for the upcoming season.
Despite his solid performance managing to keep rivals like Daniel Ricciardo at bay for his position, he experienced a dismal time at the Monaco Grand Prix the previous weekend.
Meanwhile, Tsunoda from RB is performing exceptionally well, yet he hasn't been seriously thought of as a replacement for Perez, even though his team is closely affiliated with Red Bull as a sister team.
"Tom Clarkson, the host of the F1 Nation podcast, expressed his bafflement over why he's not being considered for the secondary position at Red Bull."
Fox Sports Mexico correspondent Diego Mejia responded: "I believe he's also puzzled as to why there's no mention of him potentially driving for Red Bull in the future.
"He's taking all the correct steps. He's outperforming a previous Monaco champion."
"Daniel once ranked among the elite F1 racers. Currently, Yuki is outperforming him regularly."
"Yuki's mindset is positive. He's managing to keep his anger in check better than previously."
We've witnessed just a single instance of that occurring, which made sense when he was requested to yield his position to Daniel during the inaugural race in Bahrain.
"Since then, he's taken charge. He's truly come through."
"Eventually, if he doesn't secure the opportunities he feels he's entitled to with Red Bull, he'll need to seek them with another team."
"Now is an ideal time for him to consider that. It's evident he's making the correct moves on the track."
Aston Martin is being considered as a potential choice for Tsunoda, thanks to their upcoming connection with Honda in 2026, a leading Japanese company that might prefer to have a Japanese driver on their team.
Tsunoda has consistently finished in the points in five out of the last six Grand Prix races.
He remarkably secured the eighth position in Monaco during the crucial qualifying session on Saturday.
Perez's significant crash during the qualifying round in Monaco reportedly resulted in a $3 million expense for Red Bull.
Despite seeming likely to remain for the upcoming season, Christian Horner has consistently refrained from officially confirming Perez's contract extension whenever questioned.
