Ricciardo Shielded by Horner Amidst Red Bull Power Shifts and Inner Turbulence
Christian Horner reportedly safeguards Daniel Ricciardo, amidst Helmut Marko's diminishing influence.
Tensions in Red Bull's leadership structure are said to shield Ricciardo from being ousted from his RB position.
It is said that Christian Horner is safeguarding Daniel Ricciardo during what has been an underwhelming season to date.
Last year, midway through the season, Ricciardo received strong support from the Red Bull team principal. This came after a noteworthy test performance that allowed him to make a full-time comeback to the F1 lineup with the AlphaTauri team, taking over Nyck de Vries' position.
This year, Ricciardo has emerged as a leading contender to take over Sergio Perez's spot, given that Perez's contract with Red Bull is set to conclude this year.
However, his performance with RB this season has been underwhelming, placing him 14th in the F1 rankings, four spots below his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
According to the BBC, Tsunoda has yet to alter perceptions at Red Bull despite his recent streak of success, marked by finishing in the points in five of the last six Formula 1 races.
Even though Tsunoda might not be in the running to take Perez's spot next to Max Verstappen in 2025, his teammate Ricciardo, who hasn't been performing well, continues to have the same major backer.
According to the BBC, Ricciardo's position at RB is currently secure, with no immediate plans to replace him with Liam Lawson.
Yet, Ricciardo represents another element in the ongoing issues inside Red Bull that were exposed following an investigation that absolved Horner of allegations made by a coworker.
Helmut Marko, the seasoned consultant for the leading Formula 1 team, is inclined to favor Lawson for a promotion, potentially at the cost of Ricciardo's position.
Marko has seen a decline in his authority and sway following the scandal surrounding Horner.
It's possible that Lawson might secure a permanent position as a racing driver next year, potentially partnering with Ricciardo rather than replacing the well-liked Aussie.
Tsunoda could consider other options since it's evident he won't be moving up from RB to the main Red Bull team.
