Revving Up for a New Golden Age: How Marquez and Acosta are Steering MotoGP into a Popularity Surge
MotoGP is predicted to enter a new era of fame, driven by the success of two prominent racers.
It's alleged that the MotoGP viewership has risen, attributed to the performances of two leading riders.
Jorge Lorenzo believes that MotoGP might witness a surge in its popularity, potentially reaching levels similar to those during Valentino Rossi's prime.
The driving force behind Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta's rivalry stems from their competitive nature.
Marquez and Acosta have stood out this season and are set to join the ranks of factory riders in 2025, potentially contesting for the MotoGP championship and marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
"Lorenzo was cited by AS, stating that the return of Marc to compete for wins, alongside Acosta joining the category, has led to a rise in the MotoGP viewership."
"I'm not going to claim he's reached the pinnacle of Valentino Rossi's glory days, but it's accurate to say he's currently the most newsworthy by a significant margin."
Lorenzo maintains that Marquez demonstrated his influence by securing the victory in the competition for the official 2025 Ducati.
He caused the manufacturer to reverse their decision after stating he would refuse a factory bike if it were to be part of the Pramac team.
"Lorenzo commented that he has made the most strategic moves possible."
"He has made his intentions clear through public statements in the media, and likely in private conversations as well, by expressing his disinterest in joining Pramac and his preference for the color red."
Ducati was anxious. Their sole strategy to retain Marc Marquez involved dressing him in their iconic red, and his ultimatum of 'dress me in red or I'm gone' resonated within the company's corridors.
It's evident that the strategy of Gigi Dall’Igna and Ducati was to retain all three riders; with Jorge staying in Ducati colors and, ideally, Marc joining Pramac if feasible.
"However, Marc lacked such a strategy."
Former Ducati competitor Lorenzo evaluated the company's choice to acquire Marquez, while parting ways with Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini during the process.
"Lorenzo expressed that despite the riders' own denials, the outcomes have been essential."
"Had Jorge Martin clinched victory in nearly all the competitions, it's likely he'd be sporting the red colors currently, even though it meant battling Marquez for that prospect."
Indeed, he remains at the top of the World Championship standings, but Marc is the sole contender nearly reaching 2024 with a GP23. This refers to none other than Marc Marquez.
"Hence, under the intense pressure exerted by Marc, Claudio Domenicali opted to go for Marquez instead of Martín."
It's as straightforward as that.
Ducati recognizes that he is currently 32 years old and estimates he may have about two to four productive years remaining, allowing him the possibility to conclude his career with the brand.
"Without explicitly tallying the outcomes he is capable of delivering."
