Revisiting Deng Xiaoping’s Legacy: Would China’s Shift from Economic Focus to National Security Concern Him?
Opinion | What Deng Xiaoping Would Think of Today's China
Deng Xiaoping's focus on economic growth as a cornerstone policy is seldom referenced today, having taken a backseat to the concerns of national security.
If Deng Xiaoping were to witness modern China, what would his thoughts be? This query has occupied my thoughts since I, along with millions of others across China, commemorated his 120th birthday on August 22.

Today's Chinese are greatly indebted to the small-statured leader who initiated reforms, breaking China away from its self-chosen seclusion in the late 1970s. He enabled private business ventures and welcomed foreign investments, setting the stage for China's economic boom.
