Red Bull’s Rally: Helmut Marko Reveals Conclusive Findings to Overcome RB20 Challenges
Red Bull asserts they possess definitive evidence to reverse RB20's downturn
Helmut Marko provides an update on the recovery of RB20
Helmut Marko has indicated that Red Bull is on track with efforts to improve their Formula 1 vehicle for the 2024 season.
Max Verstappen has yet to secure a grand prix victory after six tries and departed from Monza the previous weekend, labeling his RB20 as "a monster."
Red Bull is now keeping an eye on McLaren and Lando Norris in both the team and individual championship standings.
"Even with our lackluster results, Max maintains a 62-point lead," Marko reported to OE24.
"However, this advantage could rapidly diminish if we persist in this manner."
He acknowledged the importance of supporting Verstappen to avoid jeopardizing the drivers' championship, stating, "Without providing him with a car he can handle and if we continue to perform poorly like this on several more occasions, then the outcome is uncertain."
Marko detailed Red Bull's response to a lackluster Italian Grand Prix.
"We're conducting a tire examination with Liam Lawson at Monza, while simultaneously our team will evaluate what adjustments need to be made," he stated.
"We must identify the moment where our developmental path diverged incorrectly."
"We've secured several definitive results; now, it's crucial to rapidly apply the necessary technological adjustments to restore the vehicle's correct equilibrium."
Verstappen is ahead of Norris by a margin of 62 points, however, Red Bull's advantage over McLaren is just eight points.
During the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix happening next weekend, Norris alongside his team McLaren aims to deliver a significant impact against Red Bull.
Marko mentioned that achieving equilibrium with the RB20 is particularly challenging due to the forthcoming Grand Prix races.
"He mentioned that the upcoming races on the street tracks in Baku and Singapore hold minimal importance in this context."
"Austin will demonstrate if we are capable of making a comeback."
Marko emphasized that Red Bull would place Verstappen's championship aspirations ahead of the team's overall title pursuit.
He also stood up for Sergio Perez's contribution to Red Bull's diminishing advantage in the constructors' championship.
"Marko stated that Checo isn't performing poorly; he's just not as fast. However, he emphasized that the main goal is for Max to secure the drivers' world championship."
