Red Bull’s Contract Tango: Offers and Counter-Offers with Sergio Perez
Red Bull proposes a deal to Sergio Perez, who declines with a request for revisions
"Checo was presented with the proposal and his response was 'let's take a closer look at this'…"
According to Mexican media outlets, Red Bull has proposed a new deal to retain Sergio Perez, however, they have turned down his counterproposal.
This season, the driver from Mexico has made a remarkable impression, having begun the year amid significant pressure to retain his position in the second Red Bull car.
Perez's agreement is set to conclude this year, and Red Bull is aware that their vehicle is highly sought after by skilled racers throughout the racing field.
However, it appears that Perez's displays have persuaded them to retain him, at least for the upcoming year.
Fox Sports Mexico reports that Red Bull has offered Perez a one-year contract for the 2025 season.
However, Perez has proposed an alternative two-year agreement, according to reports, which Red Bull has rejected.
"According to sources from Perez's native country, the team has secured a one-year contract."
"They presented it to Checo, and his response was 'hmm, we need to examine it'…
"Checo's legal team is currently engaged in that procedure. However, when Checo offered a counterproposal spanning two years, Red Bull promptly rejected it."
Nonetheless, the agreement has not fallen through.
A one-year deal with the possibility of extending for an additional year might still be reached.
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, cautiously spoke about Perez's career prospects following the F1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
"Horner stated, 'The entire situation regarding the drivers is unfolding, and we are fully aware of our current position and the choices available to us.'"
"When the moment is suitable for us, we'll determine our next steps moving forward."
When questioned about the process of negotiating a contract with Perez, Horner responded, stating: "Checo is consistently direct and uncomplicated to negotiate with, so I don't foresee any problems arising."
Perez has achieved top-three finishes in four races this year, on each occasion with his teammate Verstappen taking the victory, providing an ideal outcome for their team.
