Red Bull Unveils £6m RB17 Hypercar: Adrian Newey’s Final Masterpiece Exceeds F1 Speeds
The RB17 Hypercar, a £6 million project led by Adrian Newey, has at last been unveiled as his ultimate undertaking with Red Bull.
Red Bull has officially revealed the RB17 Hypercar, marking the final masterpiece from F1 design virtuoso Adrian Newey prior to his exit.
The RB17, boasting a V10 engine and 1184 horsepower, marks the last venture overseen by Newey at Red Bull, with his departure scheduled for early 2025. The iconic creator has stated that this Hypercar will achieve lap times on par with Formula 1 cars and reach speeds surpassing 350kph.
Red Bull Advanced Technologies oversees the complete design and production process, creating a limited edition of just 50 units available for purchase.
The unveiling of the RB17 took place on Friday during the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
"For a long time, I've been contemplating the ambition of creating our exclusive Hypercar, from the initial idea to the completion, and it has been an extraordinary project and adventure," Newey expressed.
The moment has arrived for us to unveil the RB17, marking an extraordinary milestone. The RB17 Hypercar epitomizes the essence of our brand, combining unparalleled strength, velocity, and aesthetics.
"Its versatility in functionality is notable, and it was intentionally crafted to accommodate two individuals, allowing both the driver and a companion to experience the excitement of Formula 1 velocities together."
Rob Gray, the technical director at Red Bull Advanced Technologies, expressed his enthusiasm about the RB17 project, stating it as an exceptional endeavor the team is honored to be part of. He emphasized that it presents an opportunity for Red Bull Advanced Technologies to demonstrate their expertise in engineering, design, and technical innovations.
"We're eagerly anticipating the moment when the completed vehicles are fully utilized on a racetrack, bringing joy to both racing fans and car aficionados."
Red Bull's team leader and chief executive, Christian Horner, stated: "We're thrilled to unveil the RB17 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an undertaking that stands as one of the most genuine and thrilling projects Red Bull Advanced Technologies has undertaken so far.
Leveraging two decades of Formula 1 heritage and our focus on high performance, it was a natural step for us to create our own Hypercar entirely from scratch. The RB17 represents a milestone vehicle, blending cutting-edge technology, success, and an emotional connection.
"I feel immense pride in our team and am thrilled to witness its global introduction. We anticipate the RB17 will become a classic in the future."
