Racing Bulls’ Rising Star: Isack Hadjar Urged to Tame Emotions Ahead of F1 Debut by Helmut Marko
Helmut Marko advises Isack Hadjar to manage his emotions before his F1 debut. He suggests that Hadjar should focus on maintaining consistency, as his speed and skills are already evident, and that experience will naturally enhance his performance.
Helmut Marko has advised Isack Hadjar to manage his emotions as he prepares for his Formula 1 debut with Racing Bulls next year.
On Friday morning, it was revealed that Hadjar would be joining Racing Bulls F1 as a driver, partnering with Yuki Tsunoda.
A 20-year-old racer from France secured the runner-up position in the 2024 Formula 2 championship, just falling short of the championship title to Gabriel Bortoleto. Bortoleto is set to enter Formula 1 with Sauber in 2025.
Hadjar is the newest addition to the roster of Red Bull drivers advancing to Formula 1, joining the ranks of Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, and Daniel Ricciardo.
In discussions prior to Red Bull's announcements this week, Marko was questioned about Hadjar and what areas he needs to enhance to advance to F1.
Evaluating Hadjar's performance, Marko mentioned on the Inside Line F1 Podcast: "To begin with, I must acknowledge that Isack lost over 80 points due to technical problems."
"Maintaining motivation and pace was already a significant accomplishment. Isack is quick, but he needs to manage his emotions and concentrate. For instance, during a race in Monte Carlo, a Safety Car unexpectedly appeared right in front of him. He began to groan and question, asking 'Why?' and similar things."
"The individual had tyres that hadn't warmed up yet. He should have focused on aggressively pursuing rather than being preoccupied with discussing it over the radio."
In essence, prioritize the significant aspects and aim to reduce errors, such as the incident where he spun out during the Abu Dhabi test. If I recall correctly, he also experienced a spin during a practice session on a Friday.
"Maintain consistency because the speed and other elements are already present. The rest will develop with regular practice."
Hadjar fills the last spot on the 2025 F1 roster.
With Hadjar's confirmation to the Racing Bulls team, the lineup for the 2025 season is now
Hadjar is the fifth newcomer in the lineup.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli is set to debut in Formula 1 with the Mercedes team, whereas Ollie Bearman will embark on his inaugural full season with Haas, partnering with Esteban Ocon.
Jack Doohan is expected to team up with Pierre Gasly at Alpine.
Bortoleto was selected to take over for Valtteri Bottas at Sauber.
Apart from the newcomers, Lewis Hamilton will be driving for Ferrari for the first time, and Lawson will experience leading-edge equipment during his debut with Red Bull in Australia.

From Rivals to Teammates: George Russell Reflects on Evolving Relationship with Valtteri Bottas as Mercedes Enters a New Era
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/russell-and-bottas-share-strategic-discu-1024x1024-22120280.png)
George Russell discusses his interaction with Valtteri Bottas before joining Mercedes. He mentioned that in the past, their relationship was seen as strained, but emphasized that they are both professionals and have developed a better rapport over time.
George Russell shared that his connection with Valtteri Bottas has "improved" following their notable collision on the track in 2021.
In 2025, Bottas has rejoined Mercedes, taking on the role of test and reserve driver to support Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
Valtteri Bottas raced with Mercedes for a period of five years, from 2017 to 2021, partnering with Lewis Hamilton. During this time, the team consistently won
In 2022, Russell took over Bottas's position after demonstrating strong performance with Williams and having been associated with Mercedes from an early stage in his career.
Russell and Bottas initially competed against each other during the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix when Lewis Hamilton was unable to participate due to testing positive for COVID-19.
Although Bottas secured the pole position, it was Russell who dominated the race until a mistake by Mercedes deprived the British driver of a storybook win.
Tensions flared between the duo during the 2021 event at Imola, resulting in a high-speed collision on the start-finish straight.
A furious Russell slapped Bottas on the head as he got out of his Williams vehicle, prompting Bottas to respond with an obscene gesture.
In a conversation featured on Mercedes' official site, Russell indicated that the duo currently share a positive rapport.
"Russell mentioned that the extensive experience he brings will be incredibly valuable. It's fantastic to have someone who possesses such deep simulator and racing expertise, and who is completely familiar with the team."
Listening to his experiences during his final years at Sauber, especially with the Ferrari engine, might be crucial as well. It's important to remain open to what others are doing, and he has a wealth of that knowledge.
"In the past, it was apparent that our relationship was seen as weak. However, over time, as professionals, we have developed a stronger bond. We frequently travel together and often encounter each other in hotels or at the gym."
Mercedes to Enter a New Phase in 2025
The departure of Hamilton will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Mercedes in 2025.
Russell is set to take on the role of informal team leader, bearing the responsibility while Antonelli familiarizes himself with the team's operations.
Antonelli ranks as the third youngest driver in the history of Formula 1 and has the potential to surpass Max Verstappen's record as the youngest winner if he secures a victory in any of the first three races of the 2025 season.
Discussing Antonelli, Russell commented, "He's an exceptional driver. Although he lacks experience at the moment, I'm confident he'll catch up rapidly."
"He has quickly become an integral part of the team. Both of us started racing when we were young, so we understand the importance of providing feedback to the team. Despite his youth, his insights will be equally valuable."

End of an Era: Toto Wolff Faces Potential Regret as Lewis Hamilton Pursues Eighth Title with Ferrari
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/hamiltons-ferrari-speeds-past-wolffs-mer-1024x1024-72687817.png)
Toto Wolff cautioned that he will likely "regret" when Lewis Hamilton leaves, stating that the ideal conclusion would have been for Hamilton to stay with Mercedes.
Toto Wolff has been warned that he might come to regret the departure of Lewis Hamilton from the Mercedes team.
Lewis Hamilton's choice to join Ferrari this season has brought together Formula 1's most accomplished driver with the sport's most successful team.
He will now pursue his quest for a historic eighth Formula 1 drivers' championship with his renowned new team, departing from Mercedes, the team that facilitated six of his existing seven titles.
GET YOUR F1 PODCAST CRASH HERE
Connor McDonagh mentioned on the Crash F1 podcast that he doesn't believe Toto will ever confess to regretting Hamilton's departure.
However, Hamilton has spent a significant portion of his career with Mercedes.
"The ideal conclusion would have involved securing the eighth championship with Mercedes."
If Hamilton secures his eighth championship, Toto will be pleased for his friend, but he would have preferred it to happen with Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton is the most renowned and favored driver in the racing world.
"Eventually, I believe Toto will come to regret that decision."
Mercedes needs to focus on what's ahead. Hamilton's chance at a historic eighth championship slipped away at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, marking the beginning of Red Bull and Max Verstappen's dominant period.
For three years, Mercedes was unable to provide Hamilton with the equipment necessary to compete for the championship.
In an episode of the Crash F1 podcast, Lewis Larkam remarked that Mercedes is facing a significant loss. Hamilton's impact extends beyond his performance on the track; it includes the entire brand and influence he brings along.
"I believe Mercedes will receive less focus this season."
Last season's narrative focused on Hamilton's challenges and his concluding year with Mercedes, despite the team being less competitive.
"If they secure a victory in a race or find themselves in a position to win the championship, Mercedes will attract attention. However, overall, I believe there will be less attention on them this season."
"Ultimately, this is due to Hamilton's departure."
"If Mercedes is competing in fourth or fifth place, they won't be the center of attention or the main topic."
"It will be intriguing to find out if there's any sense of regret. They won't publicly acknowledge it, though."
"They must also consider the long term. Hamilton's time in the sport is limited, and they were eager to secure Kimi Antonelli, whom they see as a rising star."

Max Verstappen: Celebrated Aggression and the Fear Factor in Formula 1’s Champion
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/max-verstappens-intense-eyes-behind-helm-1024x1024-80093272.png)
Max Verstappen sees aggression as a final option, yet "other drivers feel intimidated." The tendency of these racers to push boundaries is commendable, and Verstappen earns recognition for this quality.
It has been suggested that Max Verstappen should be praised, not faulted, for his driving approach that has led him to become a four-time Formula 1 champion.
The racing strategies of the Red Bull driver faced examination last season following incidents with McLaren's Lando Norris, who was challenging his position at the top of the drivers' championship.
In Austria and Mexico, Verstappen and Norris had confrontations that strained their friendship and drew attention to the F1 champion's driving style.
Get the F1 Crash Podcast Here
"According to Lewis Larkam on the Crash F1 podcast, Verstappen may struggle with race craft, particularly during direct confrontations."
"Last season, there were several incidents involving Norris. It's known that he was involved in significant crashes with Lewis Hamilton during the 2021 championship battle."
"This might be the sole flaw he has."
Especially when it comes to Hamilton, there appears to be an attraction. They invariably find themselves sharing the same stretch of road.
Max Verstappen Uses Aggression Only When Necessary
Connor McDonagh stated that for Verstappen, aggression is a final option. In 2021, Mercedes possessed the quicker vehicle.
"In Saudi Arabia, his only hope of victory was to drive in that manner. The situation was similar at Silverstone."
"It might be considered a critique to a certain degree. If he receives a suspension from a race, that's understandable."
"In Mexico, however, his calculated approach proved successful."
"He occasionally loses his temper, but it's not a major issue. It seems to me that many drivers experience similar moments of frustration; it's quite common."
"I believe it's unjust to find fault with him."
"Lewis is known for his aggressive style, similar to drivers like Senna and Schumacher…"
"It's a characteristic of these drivers to be willing to push boundaries, and he should be acknowledged for that."
He has consistently demonstrated his dominance in Formula 1, and many find him intimidating!
"It's a fact that they are. Both Norris and even Hamilton approach him with caution."
Lewis Larkam mentioned that he understands how to manipulate situations to benefit himself.
"To some degree, motorists feel apprehensive about passing other vehicles."
"It's difficult to pass Verstappen on the outside since he skillfully maneuvers to push you off the track."
"Occasionally, he gets overwhelmed, but he understands how to handle the fast-paced situations."
"The sole method to get past Verstappen is to make a daring move on the inside, but this risks a crash since he has the right to block the path."

Eddie Jordan Reverses Stance, Praises Ferrari’s Decision on Lewis Hamilton Signing
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/eddie-jordan-joyfully-embraces-ferraris-1024x1024-44379409.png)
Eddie Jordan has retracted his earlier criticism of Ferrari's decision to sign Lewis Hamilton. He now believes that, for various reasons, especially financial ones, Ferrari's choice was a wise one.
Eddie Jordan has reversed his stance regarding Ferrari's choice to bring Lewis Hamilton on board. Initially critical of the decision, he has now admitted to seeing the potential benefits after witnessing Hamilton's debut at Maranello.
In the previous year, Jordan proposed that Ferrari should have retained Carlos Sainz to partner with Charles Leclerc for the 2025 season instead of bringing Hamilton on board.
Ferrari came close but ultimately fell short in the race for the 2024 F1 constructors' championship, ending up just 14 points behind McLaren.
Jordan criticized Ferrari for what he called a "self-destructive" choice to swap Sainz for Hamilton, arguing that bringing in the seven-time world champion could disrupt the team's unity.
In the most recent installment of the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan appeared to revise his stance on Hamilton joining Ferrari and was impressed by the 40-year-old's debut visit to Maranello.
Jordan recently commented on the accident, describing it as regrettable. He noted that he had seen a picture showing a large number of Tifosi fans who had gathered to take photos and express their support during a brief test run with the car.
"Therefore, you can envision the atmosphere on the day of the Grand Prix. I believe he will attract a large audience."
"That image is destined to become iconic, likely to be referenced repeatedly for years due to its significance. Its enduring use will also hinge on how things unfold for him, but I believe the photograph will remain relevant regardless."
"I believe he attracts attention not only in Formula 1 but also globally—especially in the Americas and Asia, and he's already well-known in Europe. I'm fully supportive of the notion that Ferrari, for various reasons, especially financial ones, made a smart choice."
Jordan praises Hamilton's "legendary" photograph
The ex-BBC F1 commentator showered Hamilton with compliments for his "striking" initial photograph taken outside Enzo Ferrari's historic residence in Maranello.
The image set a new record by receiving the highest number of likes for a Formula 1-related post on Instagram.
Jordan believes that the photo of Hamilton will endure through the years and continue to be displayed for a long time.
Jordan commented on the striking image of Lewis Hamilton wearing that coat, saying it perfectly illustrates the reason Ferrari chose him.
"He’s a major draw, without a doubt. And if you take a look, you'll probably see that his photo, where he appeared very fashionable, has garnered nearly 6 million likes."
"The photograph is set to become iconic, likely to be referenced and utilized for countless years in the future. Its enduring relevance will partly hinge on his future success, yet I believe the image will remain significant regardless."

Rossi’s Verdict: Hamilton’s Bold Ferrari Move and Its Impact on F1’s Future
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/hamilton-in-red-ferrari-racing-triumphan-1024x1024-59894303.png)
Valentino Rossi shares his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton's potential move to Ferrari
Motorcycle racing legend Valentino Rossi offers his opinion regarding Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari…
Valentino Rossi, a legendary figure in MotoGP, is eager to watch Lewis Hamilton's performance with Ferrari in the year 2025.
A year ago, Hamilton surprised the sports community when it was revealed that he was moving from Mercedes to Ferrari.
This decision unites Hamilton, statistically the most successful driver in the sport, with the team that has achieved the most victories in F1 history.
Hamilton has been actively engaged in testing activities for the team at Maranello over the past few weeks.
The driver, who has won the world championship seven times, was involved in an accident on his third day with the vehicle, which occurred during the second day of testing in Barcelona.
Nine-time world champion in motorcycle racing, Rossi, has considerable experience when it comes to switching major teams.
Following his early achievements with Honda, he transitioned to Yamaha.
Most of his achievements were with Yamaha, but as his competition with Jorge Lorenzo became fiercer, he made a move to Ducati.
His tenure with the Italian manufacturer did not go well, as he faced difficulties adjusting to the Ducati motorcycle.
Consequently, he made his way back to Yamaha after a span of two years
Commenting on Hamilton's move to join Ferrari, Rossi shared his thoughts with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera: "It's definitely a wonderful sight. The idea of him in a red uniform thrills me as well."
"I am eager to know how he handles things and how Leclerc handles them as well."
Hamilton is advancing his preparations for the 2025 Formula 1 season, engaging in a Pirelli tire testing session this week.
The individual who is 40 years old will have the opportunity to drive Ferrari's 2024 model, the SF-24, as Pirelli pushes forward with its tire development efforts.
The vehicle will undergo minor modifications to align with the anticipated downforce standards set for the 2026 regulations as Pirelli readies for the upcoming year.
Hamilton is aiming to recover from last week's crash, making this track time valuable for him.

Red Bull’s Unsettled Horizon: Development Doubts Loom over F1 2025 Campaign
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/futuristic-f1-car-racing-into-sunset-cre-1024x1024-27725617.png)
Persistent Worries Haunt Red Bull as F1 2025 Approaches
As the 2025 Formula 1 season draws near, Red Bull continues to have lingering fears about potential setbacks in their development efforts.
Red Bull remains doubtful about facing the same Formula 1 development challenges in the 2025 season.
Following a period where Red Bull largely controlled the initial two years under Formula 1’s new rules, clinching consecutive double world titles in 2022 and 2023, the 2024 season emerged as a significantly tougher challenge for the team.
As Max Verstappen clinched his fourth straight drivers' world title, Red Bull fell to third place in the constructors' championship due to ongoing balance and development issues that affected the performance of the RB20.
These issues resulted in a stretch of 10 races without a victory halfway through the previous season. However, Verstappen managed to return to form with wins in Brazil and Qatar, successfully holding off a late push from McLaren's Lando Norris.
Red Bull faced difficulties, prompting team leader Christian Horner to acknowledge that they couldn't "rely" on their equipment due to issues with data and correlation.
Red Bull believes they have enhanced their correlation, yet the team remains open to the possibility of facing additional development challenges this year.
"In Formula 1, there is always the risk of encountering new issues," said Pierre Wache, the technical director of Red Bull, in an interview with Autosport.
"This is the situation we face, and our presence here is to foresee potential issues that may arise. Relying on the system without question is risky."
"I'm not suggesting that it's unnecessary, but it's important to consider everything in context and avoid replicating exactly what you practice during the actual performance."
Wache mentioned that a team thrives when there is uncertainty and a lack of complete self-assurance.
"If you're confident in yourself, it means you recognize your own shortcomings. To speak candidly: the challenges we encountered over the past year have been quite encouraging from an engineering perspective."
"When you're experiencing success, you don't scrutinize issues or details as thoroughly as you do when encountering challenges on the track."
"When you find yourself no longer being the fastest, you begin to observe and absorb knowledge. The greater your learning, the more you are investing in what lies ahead."
Adrian Newey, renowned for his design expertise in Formula 1, anticipated issues with Red Bull's car. He expressed these concerns regarding the vehicle's development direction before transitioning from Red Bull to Aston Martin.
He explained to the German outlet Auto Motor und Sport that a significant factor was the advancements made by McLaren and Ferrari in developing their vehicles, as they excelled in enhancing their cars.
"However, based on my observations, it seems that Red Bull's car for 2024, as well as towards the end of the 2023 season, was beginning to exhibit handling challenges."
"Max was certainly capable of dealing with that situation, even though it wasn't ideal for him. Checo, on the other hand, struggled with it. As the year 2023 progressed, the performance gap between the two teammates, Max and Checo, became increasingly noticeable."
As 2024 began, the issue persisted, yet the car remained fast enough to manage it. I was beginning to worry about this, but it didn't appear to be a major concern for many others in the company.

Lewis Hamilton Faces Uphill Battle: Catching Up at Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/hamiltons-mercedes-chases-leclercs-leadi-1024x1024-37489448.png)
Lewis Hamilton is "not adequately prepared" with "the team of Charles Leclerc." "Despite being the statistical greatest of all time, he requires more time on the track."
Lewis Hamilton has been cautioned that he is trying to make up ground at Ferrari.
Last month, Hamilton had his initial experience with his new team during a private session at Fiorano. Since then, he has also had a chance to drive in Barcelona, getting his first impressions of Ferrari's Formula 1 vehicle.
He was absent from the postseason test in Abu Dhabi, during which Carlos Sainz was one of the drivers making their first appearance for their new teams ahead of the 2025 season.
GET THE CRASH F1 PODCAST HERE
"Lewis is significantly lacking in his readiness as he was absent from the postseason testing in Abu Dhabi, where Sainz participated on behalf of Williams," Connor McDonagh shared on the Crash F1 podcast.
"Although the distance covered isn't extensive, it's vital for familiarizing oneself with the controls, gaining momentum, and forming connections."
"Although he is considered the greatest of all time based on statistics, he requires more experience on the track
"Each interaction with the team is crucial since he is trailing behind Sainz and Esteban Ocon, both of whom have already had experience with their new teams."
Lewis Hamilton informed that 'the team belongs to Charles'
Lewis Larkam noted, “When he moved from McLaren to Mercedes, it took some time for him to adjust and perform at his best.
"He needed half a season to consistently match Nico Rosberg's speed, and it took another half a season to secure his first victory with Mercedes."
"We should not downplay the importance of the adjustment period."
The team is essentially under Charles' leadership; he understands its operations thoroughly. He feels at ease and is aware of what lies ahead. Meanwhile, Hamilton is trying to keep up.
Charles Leclerc, who is now racing alongside Hamilton, is embarking on his seventh season in Formula 1 as a driver for Ferrari.
In the previous season, he secured third place in the drivers' championship and achieved victory in three grand prix races.
Leclerc stands out for his speed in single-lap performance, a category in which Hamilton has faced difficulties in the last two seasons.
The combination of these two drivers is considered by many to be the strongest duo in Formula 1 for 2025, and they are expected to propel Ferrari towards success in the constructors' championship. In the previous season, they surpassed Red Bull, securing a position just behind McLaren.
Nonetheless, Sainz clinched victory in two grand prix races last year, setting a high standard for Hamilton to meet as he first needs to get accustomed to his new vehicle.

Shadows and Speed: Carlos Sainz’s Undervalued Journey in F1
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/carlos-sainz-driving-through-dramatic-ev-1024x1024-52329550.png)
Is Carlos Sainz not getting the recognition he deserves? Overshadowed after changing F1 teams
"He also happens to be at Red Bull during a time when they favor Verstappen. As a result, he ends up somewhat in the background."
Carlos Sainz's worth and talent are not fully recognized in the world of Formula 1, as stated by his father, Carlos Sainz Sr.
Carlos Sainz will join Williams for the 2025 Formula 1 season after Ferrari chose to replace him with Lewis Hamilton.
The Spaniard's last season with Ferrari could be considered his most remarkable. He secured two wins while Ferrari came close to winning their first constructors' championship since 2008.
Nevertheless, Sainz is set to move down the starting order to align with Williams, as both Mercedes and Red Bull decided against selecting him.
Mercedes made the decision to elevate Andrea Kimi Antonelli to take over from Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
Red Bull opted not to select Sainz, instead picking Liam Lawson to team up with Max Verstappen.
During an appearance on El Cafelito, Carlos Sainz Sr. stated that his son is "overshadowed" in Formula 1.
"He believes that the worth and talent of the individual are not fully recognized."
"He also finds himself at the same time as Verstappen. This is the period when Red Bull opts for Verstappen, leaving him somewhat overshadowed."
"He eventually becomes a driver for Ferrari, which is quite challenging. Just picture yourself being a Ferrari driver but racing for McLaren."
"The most impressive version is yet to arrive." Sainz's quick pace and diligent work ethic render him a valuable addition to any Formula 1 team in the competition.
Even though Sainz has become a part of Williams, he remains optimistic about competing at the front of the pack in the next few years.
Whether they continue with Williams for development or go back to a leading team.
Carlos Sainz has the opportunity to bolster his standing in the racing world by partnering with Alex Albon to guide the Williams team in the coming years.
Carlos Sainz Sr. believes that his son's performance will get better.
He expressed his belief that the most outstanding version of Carlos is yet to be seen. "That's how I feel," he mentioned.
"He is a driver who consistently progresses, making it seem like he unveils his most improved self each year."
"There are some drivers who perform exceptionally well right from the start but then leave quickly. Carlos, on the other hand, gets better with each passing year."

David Coulthard Offers Insight into Lewis Hamilton’s Barcelona Test Crash: Adjusting to Ferrari’s Power Dynamics
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/david-coulthard-analyzing-hamiltons-ferr-1024x1024-40527353.png)
David Coulthard offers a reason for Lewis Hamilton's accident in Barcelona. He emphasizes that regardless of whether you are the legendary Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, or the present Ferrari competitor Lewis Hamilton, anyone can experience a mishap at any given moment.
Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard has proposed that Lewis Hamilton's accident at his initial Barcelona test might have been linked to the distinct power output of the Ferrari engine.
During his second day of testing in Barcelona last week, Hamilton crashed the SF-23.
The seven-time world champion emerged unscathed after crashing into the barriers in the last section of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Details about the incident have not been widely shared with the public, but it did result in Charles Leclerc being unable to continue.
Ferrari swiftly minimized the seriousness of the accident, explaining that such incidents are a typical aspect of adjusting to a new team.
This might serve as a positive sign for Hamilton, considering he experienced crashes during his initial trials with McLaren in 2007 and later with Mercedes in 2013.
Coulthard presents a Hamilton hypothesis
Hamilton is experiencing a new chapter in his Formula 1 journey, as he is now racing without a Mercedes engine for the first time.
McLaren utilized Mercedes engines throughout the six-year period from 2007 to 2012.
He then dedicated 12 seasons to Mercedes, serving from 2013 through 2024
Each F1 power unit has its own unique characteristics, which Hamilton needs to get used to.
During the Formula for Success podcast, Coulthard shared his opinion by stating: "There was a lot of attention on his recent test session in Barcelona. He experienced a minor incident, which some might label as a crash."
"Last night, I attended the Autosport Awards and walked along the red carpet. The journalists with a penchant for sensational stories who were present kept asking, 'Have you heard anything about the accident?'"
Experiencing a mishap is a risk that comes with the job. It doesn't matter if you were the legendary Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, or if you're the present-day Ferrari racer, Lewis Hamilton—any of us can face a setback at some moment.
"I view the situation quite straightforwardly. He needs to familiarize himself with the Ferrari's control mechanisms and how its power is distributed."
"We're working with hybrid engines, which don't provide the same natural torque acceleration as internal combustion engines. Instead, electrical energy is delivered instantaneously. I think he was just so accustomed to the Mercedes hybrid Formula 1 engine that he was taken by surprise."
Lewis Hamilton had a successful second Formula 1 test in Barcelona, taking the wheel of Ferrari's 2024 car, the SF-24.
The individual, aged 40, is scheduled to make their next racing appearance at Fiorano during the unveiling of the 2025 vehicle.

Williams Open Door for Franco Colapinto’s Return Amid Alpine Transition: James Vowles Reveals Strategic Move
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/franco-colapinto-shakes-hands-with-willi-1024x1024-18242897.png)
Williams suggests Franco Colapinto's potential comeback linked to Alpine partnership
Recent statements from Williams leader James Vowles indicate a possible return for Franco Colapinto could be on the table.
Williams has suggested that Franco Colapinto might rejoin their team even though he has recently signed with Alpine, a competing F1 team.
Following an impressive performance in an unexpected nine-race appearance with Williams last season, Colapinto caught the attention of Alpine, who decided to include him in their lineup of reserve drivers. This move comes as uncertainty grows about Jack Doohan's future in Formula 1.
After Carlos Sainz left Ferrari, he joined Williams to team up with Alex Albon, paving the way for Colapinto's debut. This means that there are currently no available positions at the Grove-based team for the near future.
Consequently, Williams was ready to let the 21-year-old Argentine leave in order to become part of Alpine.
James Vowles, the team principal of Williams, stated that Alpine offers Colapinto the "most promising chance" to secure a full-time racing position within the next couple of years, although he emphasized that this is not a "certainty."
"The decision revolved around the belief that drivers who truly merit a place in Formula 1, like him, should indeed be behind the wheel of an F1 car," Vowles explained to Sky Sports during the Autosport Awards.
"He hasn't been considered as a backup driver for our team. We already have two excellent drivers secured for the upcoming two years. There's no spot available for him here, and his best chance lies with Alpine."
"There is no assurance of a seat becoming available in 2025, but it represents the most promising chance over the next couple of years. My decision was influenced by him and what would contribute to his future success."
Vowles suggested that Colapinto might rejoin Williams, stating, "This isn't a farewell for him. He'll continue to be part of our team in the future, which I see as a forward-looking investment."
Vowles suggests that Williams might bring Colapinto back after two years if he hasn't secured a position at Alpine and if the British team finds themselves in need of a driver.
Williams stated that the contract with Alpine was a "multi-year agreement" when it was revealed in January.
During his remarks, Colapinto expressed his gratitude to Williams Racing and the team's partners, acknowledging their support since he joined the Academy. He appreciated the chance they provided him to pursue a career as a Formula 1 driver.
"They turned my dreams into reality, and I will forever be thankful for their efforts. I want to express my gratitude to the mechanics and all the team members who worked tirelessly to get the car ready for the race and enabled me to earn points."
"To our fans, your unwavering support has been invaluable. You've stood by us through both highs and lows, and for that, you are truly exceptional."

Mercedes’ 2025 Challenge: Toto Wolff Admits Persistent Performance Fluctuations Could Hinder F1 Ambitions
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/futuristic-mercedes-f1-car-on-dynamic-tr-1024x1024-21243792.png)
Toto Wolff calls for action from Mercedes as he acknowledges inconsistencies
Toto Wolff has acknowledged that Mercedes may still face issues with inconsistent performance.
Toto Wolff has admitted that Mercedes will find it challenging to eliminate their performance inconsistencies in the 2025 F1 season.
Mercedes managed to secure four victories last season, with wins shared between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. However, their competitive performance varied significantly over the course of the year.
The Silver Arrows team was at a loss to account for their strong performance at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Russell secured a commanding victory, leading a 1-2 finish. However, the team struggled with their speed during other weekends.
Mercedes team boss Wolff has acknowledged that it is improbable for his team to fully resolve the issue as they approach the upcoming season.
Wolff stated that Mercedes is aiming for their W16 car to function effectively across a broader range of conditions compared to the previous model, the W15.
Wolff mentioned to the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport that the key is to align yourself with the favorable side whenever feasible.
"You begin to notice patterns, such as the race tracks where your vehicle performs well, the practice sessions where you drove aggressively, the tire compounds that suit your car best, and the track temperatures that are optimal for your vehicle."
"I trust we will learn the appropriate lessons from this during the winter and modify our development strategy for the 2025 vehicle."
"We cannot entirely eliminate these variations. All teams will experience them again in the coming year."
Even though Mercedes encountered significant challenges, Wolff thinks that all the top teams in Formula 1 experienced comparable difficulties at various points in 2024.
Wolff mentioned that each of the four teams that claimed victories in 2024 has faced their own set of challenges and successes.
No one has ever created a car that performs well on every race track and in every type of weather.
"McLaren's car excelled in conditions requiring high downforce and warm temperatures. Ferrari's vehicle was similarly suited to those conditions."
"Our vehicle performed well in high-speed turns and in cooler conditions. Meanwhile, the Red Bull team occasionally excelled in one area and at other times in a different one."
This year, Russell will team up with 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who has taken over from Hamilton after his unexpected move to Ferrari.

Machinery Theory Explored: Was Ferrari’s SF-23 the Culprit in Hamilton’s Testing Crash?
![](https://automobilnews.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/ferraris-sf-23-collides-with-hamiltons-c-1024x1024-81152517.png)
Theory about machinery suggested as reason for Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari accident
"Consider this: driving that car was quite challenging."
The particular vehicle Lewis Hamilton was operating during his test run for Ferrari, when he experienced a crash, has been recognized as a potential factor in the incident.
Hamilton created a buzz with a small mishap that led to the early conclusion of a Ferrari testing session, also resulting in the delay of teammate Charles Leclerc's schedule.
However, Hamilton was behind the wheel of the SF-23, the problematic Ferrari model from 2023, which might have played a role in his minor accident.

Lewis Larkam mentioned on the Crash F1 podcast that some aspects of it are shrouded in mystery.
Ferrari has chosen not to speak on the matter, likely because they prefer to maintain confidentiality.
According to an insider, the event was not significant.
From their perspective, it was just a minor incident and a routine aspect of testing, especially given that Hamilton is accustomed to racing for Mercedes.
"It is anticipated during testing that a driver will explore the capabilities of a car, discovering its limits and identifying where the performance boundaries lie."
"If you continue testing for an extended period, you are likely to encounter a problem or find yourself in the gravel."
Uncertainties remain regarding the specifics, with differing accounts concerning the magnitude of the event and its location.
"Certain sources mentioned that the damage was minimal, while others claimed it was significant. The truth remains unclear as Ferrari has chosen not to disclose the details."
SF-23 recognized following Lewis Hamilton's accident
"Lewis Larkam pointed out that the incident involved Ferrari's most underperforming car of this era, the 2023 model."
Red Bull's strong performance played a significant role, making it quite challenging for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
"That's an aspect to consider – the car was challenging to handle."
In a Pirelli tire testing session for Ferrari, Hamilton has taken the wheel of a 2024 model.
It has been stated that his accident will not lead to any lasting issues with confidence.
Connor McDonagh expressed that considering his resume, background, and achievements, it's difficult to believe that this would have had any impact on him.
"There might be instances where drivers with less experience have faced challenges—Pierre Gasly, for instance, experienced a significant crash during testing in 2019, which had an impact on him. Similarly, Logan Sargeant began his season well but then encountered a few crashes that negatively affected his performance at Williams."
"This was an integral aspect of the testing process, and it provides a learning opportunity for him."
The vehicle model from 2023 posed challenges for drivers when navigating corners at high speeds.
"It would be more concerning if he were behind the wheel of the 2025 car during practice sessions in Bahrain or Australia."
