Pol Espargaro Joins KTM Lineup for Austrian MotoGP Wildcard at Red Bull Ring
Pol Espargaro set to compete as a wildcard in Austrian MotoGP
Pol Espargaro is scheduled to participate in his second wildcard entry for the MotoGP season at the Red Bull Ring.
In August, Pol Espargaro will join factory KTM racers Brad Binder and Jack Miller at the Austrian MotoGP.
In his debut season as an official test rider for KTM, Pol Espargaro participated in his first wildcard event of the year at Mugello.
KTM has lagged even more behind Ducati and Aprilia in the latest races, so adding a fifth rider to the lineup for their home grand prix could be advantageous as they strive to improve their performance.
Espargaro is familiar with contending for top finishes at the Red Bull Ring, having nearly won there in 2020.
Espargaro is set to compete with the official KTM squad, teaming up with Binder and Miller.
In talking about his upcoming wildcard entry, Espargaro expressed his enthusiasm by saying, "I’m excited to get back on track! Mugello was a remarkable place for my comeback with Red Bull KTM, but the Red Bull Ring holds its own unique significance."
"For the circuit, the location, the supporters, and the ambiance, and considering the significance this Grand Prix holds for KTM, it almost feels like a home race to me."
"I have fond memories of competing for victory there, but, similar to Italy, our objective will be to hit the track with the KTM RC16 and carry on with our testing schedule."
"We have tasks ahead, but I'm confident that the Austrian Grand Prix will be enjoyable as well."
The Austrian MotoGP is scheduled for the 16th to the 18th.
