Perez Confident Belgian Grand Prix Won’t Be His Last with Red Bull Despite Speculation
Sergio Perez is completely confident that the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend will not be his last race with Red Bull in Formula 1.
Sergio Perez firmly believes that his position with the Red Bull Formula 1 team is safe, despite rumors suggesting that the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend might be his last race with them.
The future of Perez in Formula 1 has been widely discussed lately due to his disappointing performance since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Mexican driver has not placed above seventh since the Miami race, which occurred in early May.
Perez's inconsistent performance has put Red Bull's lead in the constructors' championship at risk.
Following McLaren's first and second place results at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull's advantage has been reduced to only 51 points.
Consequently, Perez might be substituted for the latter part of the season to secure Red Bull's victory in the constructors' championship.
Nevertheless, Perez is determined to compete in the Dutch Grand Prix, which takes place following the summer recess.
During a press event in Belgium on Thursday, with Crash.net reporters present in the paddock, Perez was questioned about whether he is "completely certain" that this weekend's race won't be his final one with Red Bull.
He responded, "That's right."
Perez was then asked why he is confident about staying with the team after this weekend, considering the widespread rumors about his future.
He stated, "I'm fully aware of the terms of my contract. I understand that the team has confidence in me, and I recognize that my primary objective is to perform well on the track."
The 34-year-old mentioned that he hasn't had any conversations with Helmut Marko regarding remarks made about Perez's future during their summer break discussions.
Marko and Christian Horner are set to evaluate Perez's position following the Spa race.
"I have something to ask him," Perez mentioned. "We haven't discussed that specific issue yet. As I mentioned before, I believe the entire team is dedicated to regaining our momentum. Everything else is just conjecture. The team is putting in a lot of effort to help me turn the season around."
When discussing the goal of winning the constructors’ championship, the focus remains solely on that objective. There have been no additional conversations beyond the efforts to realign our season.
Perez dismissed claims that he was annoyed by Marko's remarks in the press, admitting that this is simply the way Red Bull functions.
“That’s just the way our team functions,” he stated. “It’s the way things are. I’m okay with it. My attention is on the team. I work within the team to optimize our performance, both for the team and the car. Everything else, as I mentioned, is merely conjecture.”
"I'm not stressed about it. I understand my position. That's not something I'm concerned with. My main focus is getting my season back on track. Everything else doesn't really bother me."
