Pecco Bagnaia Predicts Imminent Victory for Year-Old Ducati GP23 Amidst Stiff Competition from Factory-Spec Riders
Pecco Bagnaia expresses confidence that a victory for the Ducati GP23 is on the horizon. "I believe a win for the '23 model is imminent," he stated.
Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini both believe that it won't be long before a Ducati bike from last year secures a victory in a MotoGP race.
Marc Marquez stands out as the leading rider in the GP23 series and has been the nearest to clinching a win up to this point.
Alex Marquez, who is a teammate at Gresini, along with Fabio di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi from the VR46 team, are all using last year's model of the motorcycle.
Bagnaia mentioned to Motorsport that he believes a victory on a '23 bike is imminent.
"At the moment, the performance level is extremely high. With the introduction of new tires, it's elevated once more, and the GP24 riders are delivering exceptional results."
“We're not merely present; we're not just three sluggish riders. Instead, we're performing exceptionally well.”
His fellow Ducati factory rider, Bastianini, commented, “I share Pecco’s opinion.
"I recall that last year, it was crucial to allocate some time for modifications on the bike, which was different from the one I had with Gresini in 2022."
"For me, the '23 bike is quite similar to the '24 model, and honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference."
"As you mentioned, Pecco, it's likely that the '23 model will be capable of winning in the future."
“The issue lies in the skill level of the riders using the factory-spec bike.”
“We are very close, and for now, Marc is significantly quicker with the 2023 bike.
"However, in my opinion, the difference is not significant."
Jorge Martin, who rides a factory-spec bike for Pramac, commented: "I expected the '23 model to be more competitive at Mugello."
"Last year, I was more powerful in changing directions compared to this season."
"This year, I faced significantly more challenges with the '24 compared to the '23 last year."
"At this point, it's hard to tell, but they resemble each other a lot."
In the previous year, the older model of the Ducati frequently secured victories in grand prix races.
VR46 rider Bezzecchi contended for the championship on a 2023 model, and at the same time, Gresini's Di Giannantonio secured a race victory.
Last season, Alex Marquez also secured victory in two sprint races on the GP23.
