The 2024 Opel Mokka introduces a hybrid option featuring 48-volt technology
The favored compact SUV is now available with a partial electric drive…
Opel's range of hybrid vehicles is expanding. For the first time, the Mokka is being offered with a partial electric system. This enhancement from the Rüsselsheim-based automaker broadens the array of options for their second most popular model, following the Corsa.
The compact SUV is being upgraded with the latest 48-volt technology, which has already been utilized in its lower-slung sibling. This merger of a gasoline engine and an electric motor is expected to reduce fuel consumption by approximately 20 percent. While the conventional combustion engine model records 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers as per WLTP standards, the new mild-hybrid Mokka variant is anticipated to consume just 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers.

The hybrid propulsion system features a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 136 horsepower, paired with an electric motor that adds another 28 horsepower. This setup is integrated with a new six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission. The Mokka Hybrid has the capability to operate solely on electric power for up to one kilometer at low speeds. Opel states that it can run on electric power for "50 percent of the time during city driving."
Opel's brand chief in Germany, Patrick Dinger, highlights that the Mokka's driving pleasure is being enhanced with the introduction of a new electrified hybrid system, making it more efficient for drivers. He also points out that even those who have never driven an electric vehicle before can now experience the benefits of pure electric driving, especially in urban settings, without the need for any major adjustments.
Upcoming 2024 Hybrid Version of the Opel Mokka
The Opel Mokka comes equipped with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery that recharges during deceleration, with the built-in electric motor serving as a generator. This compact vehicle can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.1 seconds and reaches its maximum speed at 207 km/h.
Additionally, the electric motor provides the gasoline engine with extra torque at low revs, such as during acceleration. The more efficient drive is also expected to enhance the comfort of the ride. There are three driving modes available: Eco, Normal, and Sport.
Further Information on Mocha
Mokka hybrid drivers can look forward to a few extra handy details in addition to the familiar features from the standard engine model. For instance, there's a continuous power display and a speedometer that illuminates in blue for electric driving and in white when the combustion engine is in use.
The Opel Mokka's hybrid system showcases the energy transfer between the battery, gasoline engine, and wheels, along with the battery's charge level, using a variety of colors. A trip summary display provides insights into additional information such as distance traveled, time spent driving, average fuel consumption, remaining range, and the percentage of the journey completed using only electric power. However, the hybrid experience in the Opel Mokka comes with a significant price tag, starting at 31,915 euros.
