Oliveira’s Valiant Effort at Sachsenring Falls Short Against Ducati’s Dominance
Miguel Oliveira couldn't quite match the pace of the Ducatis
Despite delivering his strongest showing of the year at Sachsenring, Miguel Oliveira acknowledged he was "not quite at the level of the Ducatis today."
Miguel Oliveira secured the sixth position in the German MotoGP after initial skirmishes with Francesco Bagnaia, Franco Morbidelli, and Alex Marquez.
The Trackhouse competitor emerged as the sole challenger capable of giving Ducati a run for their money, albeit gradually falling behind as the race progressed.
Oliveira fell to seventh place after being surpassed by Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini in the last turn, but then moved up to sixth when Jorge Martin had an accident on the second-to-last lap.
"Definitely a fantastic weekend," Oliveira remarked. "We achieved highly competitive lap times and secured competitive positions in both the Qualifying and the Sprint.
Today marked the initial significant hurdle I encountered in the prolonged competition over the weekend.
"Today, we simply couldn't match the Ducatis – their speed and grip were on another level."
"Regrettably, I wasn't able to push for higher achievements this weekend, even though I felt I was performing well, riding smoothly, and effectively managing the tyres. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough this time."
In a repeat of Saturday's sprint, Oliveira's colleague, Raul Fernandez, fell back in the rankings after initially lining up on the front row next to the rider from Portugal.
Despite not experiencing as dramatic a decline as the initial burst, Fernandez ultimately secured the tenth position in the race.
Fernandez stated, "It was crucial for us to thoroughly examine the events of yesterday to grasp the problem we encountered during the Sprint. This was also vital for my mental preparation before entering today's race."
"Managing the Sprint yesterday proved to be a challenge, and I'm keen to find out what today's race has in store."
The group performed well, and we received some positive news from the previous day this morning.
"I grasped the issue I encountered during the Sprint, hence my intense concentration on performing well in the race, believing we had a good chance of succeeding.
"However, when it came to the actual race, even though I gave it my all, I found myself lacking, particularly in the latter half of the event."
"During the initial 15 laps, I was in contention with the front runners and Miguel, but from the 15th lap onwards to the finish, I faced challenges with the tyre."
"We made efforts to conserve it throughout the race using the methods I'm familiar with, but it was challenging, making the final stretch of the race tough. I gave it my all, and we managed to finish in the top 10 – overall, the weekend was pretty decent."
