MP Iqbal Mohamed Challenges Proposed Ban on First Cousin Marriages, Advocates for Genetic Screening and Education
Independent MP Iqbal Mohamed voiced opposition to the proposal banning marriages between first cousins, stating that such unions should not be stigmatized and instead considered a matter of health awareness.

Tuesday, December 10, 2024, 6:
A Member of Parliament has voiced opposition to proposals for prohibiting marriages between first cousins in the UK. Instead, the MP recommends that sophisticated genetic testing should be offered to couples planning to marry.
Independent MP Iqbal Mohamed stated that although "the protection of women's freedom is paramount," he doubts that banning the practice would be "practical or enforceable."
Latest in Politics: Taxpayers foot £1,200 bill for two binders
He contended that instead of "demonizing" cousin marriages, a "far more constructive approach" ought to be embraced to address the health issues associated with the offspring of such unions.
The representative for Dewsbury and Batley proposed that steps might involve implementing screening initiatives comparable to those used in Gulf Arab nations.
Mr. Mohamed addressed the issue raised by Richard Holden, a former Conservative minister, who recently brought forward his Marriage (Prohibited Degrees of Relationship) Bill for additional review in the Commons.
Under existing legislation, individuals are forbidden from marrying their siblings, parents, or children, however, the law does not extend this prohibition to marriages between first
Mr. Mohamed addressed the Commons, saying, "First-cousin marriages are associated with certain health risks, and I believe it's important to raise more awareness about this issue."
He discussed the importance of stopping practices like "virginity testing" and coerced marriages, as well as safeguarding women's rights.
He informed members of parliament, "Nevertheless, the solution isn't to grant the government the authority to prevent adults from marrying one another, especially since I believe it wouldn't be effective or enforceable."
"Rather, this issue should be addressed as one of health awareness and cultural practices where women are coerced into marriage against their desires."
Marriage between first cousins is viewed favorably
Mr. Mohamed noted that between 35% and 50% of populations in sub-Saharan Africa either prefer or are accepting of cousin marriages, highlighting that this practice is particularly prevalent in the Middle East and South Asia.
He mentioned that its popularity stems from being viewed as "an extremely positive influence, one that strengthens family ties and enhances financial stability for families."
He stated: "Rather than casting a negative light on individuals who marry their cousins or are considering it, a better strategy would be to offer comprehensive genetic testing for couples planning to marry, similar to practices in Persian Gulf Arab nations, and to implement health education campaigns aimed at communities where such marriages are prevalent."

Ex-Tory leader Mr. Holden presented his legislative ideas through the 10-minute rule procedure, enabling a backbench MP to advocate for a new law with a speech lasting no longer than 10 minutes in the House of Commons.
Nonetheless, such bills seldom pass into law without the backing of the government, due to the restricted amount of time allocated to them in parliament.
Downing Street acknowledged the clarity of expert opinions regarding the risks associated with marriages between first cousins, but signaled that there are currently no intentions to amend the legislation.
"A spokesperson from Number 10 outlined the government's legislative priorities,"
Mr. Holden contends that there should be a legal reform because some diaspora groups, such as Irish Travellers and the British Pakistani community, experience significantly high occurrences of first cousin marriages.
He mentioned that these types of marriages are associated with an increased incidence of congenital anomalies and may also perpetuate harmful patterns and subjugate women.
He stated that "health, liberty, and patriotic principles" motivated him to propose the legislation.

Public Sector Unrest: Unions Threaten Action Over ‘Offensive’ 2.8% Pay Rise Amid Cost of Living Crisis
Labor groups suggest potential strikes in response to a 'disrespectful' 2.8% wage increase proposal.
The Royal College of Nursing has criticized the suggested raise, equating it to an additional £2 per day, which they argue is "less than the cost of a cup of coffee." The National Education Union (NEU) has dismissed the proposal as insufficient. This comes after a time where the total raise from the previous three salary adjustments amounted to more than 17%.

Tuesday, December 10, 2024, 8:
Labor groups have suggested the possibility of resuming strikes following a proposal for a 2.8% salary increase next year for teachers, NHS employees, and other public sector workers.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) described the sum as "barely £2 more each day" and called on the government to initiate discussions to "prevent additional disturbances and voting."
Politics Live: Nearly £1,200 from public funds used for two high-end leather binders
The National Education Union (NEU) has warned government officials that their proposed solutions are insufficient, and the British Medical Association (BMA) has criticized the new Labour government for not addressing the ongoing problems that have persisted through two years of strikes during the Conservative's tenure.
The data was disclosed in submissions to several salary review panels released on Tuesday.
The Department of Health and Social Care stated that reserving 2.8% for NHS staff salaries is "a sensible figure," considering the present economic projections, fiscal circumstances, and labor market conditions.
The Department for Education (DfE) argued that a 2.8% increase would be suitable and would keep teachers' salaries competitive.

The Department for Education noted that this would come after a 5.5% salary increase for the year 2024/25, which represents a total rise of more than 17% across the most recent three salary adjustments.
The Cabinet Office stated that the policy for top civil servants should align, highlighting that the Treasury confirmed no extra funds will be provided to departments for the 2025/26 salary increases.
Forecasts from the Office of Budget Responsibility suggest that inflation will average 2.5% this year and increase slightly to 2.6% the following year.
Wage conflicts caused widespread disruptions in numerous public sectors as the Conservative government's tenure neared its conclusion. A variety of professionals including nurses, paramedics, teachers, junior doctors, consultants, physiotherapists, civil servants, and border personnel walked out, striking in pursuit of increased pay amidst rising living costs.
The strike by junior doctors concluded soon after the general election, following a proposed salary increase of 22.3% spread over two years.
The newly formed administration has agreed to implement the salary adjustments proposed by the independent Pay Review Bodies (PRBs). As a result, workers in the public sector can expect a pay raise ranging from 4 to 6% for the fiscal year 2024-25.

The rise matched predictions for salary growth in the private sector, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies. However, the report highlighted that when adjusted for inflation, public sector wages remain lower than their 2010 levels.

The Royal College of Nursing expressed severe disapproval of next year's proposal, labeling the 2.8% increase as "deeply offensive."
"Today, the government has informed nursing personnel that their value is pegged at a mere additional £2 per day, which is even less than the cost of a cup of coffee," stated Professor Nicola Ranger, the union leader.
"I've proposed to the government today that we initiate direct discussions immediately to prevent any progression towards disagreements and voting."

In the meantime, Daniel Kebede, the general secretary of the NEU, stated that an overwhelming amount of work and effective salary reductions have led to a severe crisis in attracting and keeping staff in the education field.
Alluding to potential strikes, he mentioned, "Members of the NEU battled to secure the salary hikes in 2023 and 2024.
"We are issuing a warning to the government. Our members are profoundly committed to education and are acutely aware of the severity of the crisis. This situation is unacceptable."
Unison described the suggested 2.8% increase as "just over the cost of living," and Unite argued that the ongoing crisis in NHS staffing "cannot be addressed unless the matter of compensatory pay is taken seriously."
The BMA cautioned that when doctors agreed to their salary proposals earlier this year, it was clear to the government that ongoing efforts were needed to counteract the diminishing value of their pay. They emphasized that future salary discussions must adhere to this trajectory and highlighted the significant possibility of more strikes if these conditions were not met.

Controversy in Parliament: Labour MP Hosts Alleged PKK Member Amidst Security Concerns
A Labour Member of Parliament welcomed an individual charged with affiliating with the outlawed PKK group to the parliamentary premises. The PKK, or Kurdistan Workers' Party, has been officially banned since 2001 due to its promotion of Kurdish autonomy using both political means and violent conflict.

Tuesday, December 10, 2024, 8:
Sky News has learned that a Labour MP welcomed an individual under investigation for terrorism-related activities into Parliament shortly before he was taken into custody.
Agit Karatas, along with five others, was indicted on Tuesday for affiliation with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), following a probe by counter-terrorism officials in London.
Since 2001, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, commonly referred to as the PKK, has been designated as a banned group due to its promotion of Kurdish autonomy via a combination of political efforts and violent conflict.
Karatas, aged 23 and an advocate for Kurdish rights, is affiliated with the Centre for Kurdish Progress, a well-known organization connected to members of parliament.
In October of this year, he was granted entry to the parliamentary grounds for the inaugural session of a newly established All-Party Parliamentary Group, the APPG on Kurds, which is led by Steve Race, the Labour MP for Exeter.
The organization is bipartisan, featuring members of parliament from a variety of political backgrounds.
Present at the gathering were Labour's initial Kurdish MP and minister for science, Feryal Clark, alongside Labour MP Afzal Khan, Independent MP Shockat Adam, and Lord Michael Cashman.

MPs Sound Alarm on ‘Shocking’ State of Military Housing Plagued by Damp and Mould
MPs express alarm over 'appalling' conditions in military housing
The head of the Defence Committee stated, "It is utterly unacceptable for service members who defend our nation to reside in accommodations plagued by significant dampness and mould."
Defense and Security Editor @haynesdeborah
Wednesday, December 11, 2024, 2:
A report from Members of Parliament has described the conditions of military housing as "appalling," revealing that nearly two-thirds of homes for service families are in such deteriorated state they are basically unsuitable for their intended use.
The Defence Committee pointed out ongoing problems with dampness and mold, pressing the Ministry of Defence and the Treasury to allocate additional resources to enhance the entire military estate "before it becomes irreparably damaged."
Members of Parliament cautioned that increased numbers of military personnel, including soldiers, sailors, and pilots, might leave the forces if issues with housing are not addressed.
The report released on Wednesday indicates that the confidence of service families in the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) — the MoD division responsible for managing military residences — along with the maintenance contractors, has been undermined and requires restoration.
The MPs emphasized that the Ministry of Defense's assertions about the improvement in contractor services must be validated by a tangible enhancement in customer experience and a significant rise in customer satisfaction.
Tan Dhesi, who leads the Defence Committee, stated, "It's completely unacceptable for individuals who serve their nation to reside in homes plagued by severe dampness and mold – issues that threaten the health of both them and their families."
It is evident that solving many of these issues will require significant funding for the Defence property.

The document, named "Service Accommodation," spans 55 pages and details the testimony provided to an earlier version of the committee in the previous session of parliament.
Worries over the condition of military accommodations have been persistent, stemming from years of insufficient funding and poor oversight. This sector includes almost 50,000 residences for military families and over 130,000 individual sleeping quarters for those needing only single-room living arrangements.
The previous administration had committed to significant upgrades in housing following recent reports of severe issues such as dampness, rat infestations, mold, and heating malfunctions.
The report highlights the magnitude of the issue, stating, "One-third of Single Living Accommodation and two-thirds of Service Families Accommodation have deteriorated to the point where they are basically unusable. Bringing all military housing up to current living standards would necessitate a multi-billion pound investment for either refurbishment or reconstruction."
Parliament members referenced statements from Michael Green, the chief executive at DIO, who characterized the condition of the property as "appalling".

The report reiterated this characterization when discussing instances of mold.
"It is surprising that before a policy revision in 2022, it was deemed permissible to accommodate families in homes plagued by dampness and mold. Despite these changes, problems with dampness and mold persist."
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence stated, "This report clearly exposes the critical condition of military housing that the current administration inherited and is committed to resolving."

UK Government Indefinitely Extends Ban on Puberty Blockers for Minors Citing Safety Concerns
Indefinite ban on puberty blockers for minors
The temporary prohibition on puberty blockers for individuals under 18 will be extended indefinitely following warnings from independent health professionals about potential risks to children.
Political journalist @fayebrownSky
Wednesday, December 11, 2024, 2:
The UK has decided to indefinitely prohibit the use of puberty blockers in minors suffering from gender dysphoria, following warnings from specialists about significant safety concerns.
The authorities announced that based on advice from independent healthcare experts, the current restrictions on selling and distributing these medications outside of clinical studies will continue.
Recent Political Update: Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch Face Off on Immigration Issues During Prime Minister's Questions
Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized the importance of proceeding carefully and adhering to professional guidance when addressing the needs of this "vulnerable group of young people."
He mentioned that the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) has determined that the existing methods of prescribing and managing treatment for gender dysphoria pose significant safety concerns for children and adolescents.
He also mentioned the concerns highlighted in the Cass Review regarding the insufficient evidence supporting these medical treatments and their safety.
"Mr. Streeting emphasized the importance of proceeding carefully and attentively, and heeding the guidance of specialists concerning this sensitive cohort of youth."
Mr. Streeting stated that the government, in collaboration with NHS England, is establishing new gender identity services for the youth after the shutdown of the heavily criticized Tavistock center. Additionally, they plan to initiate a clinical study on puberty blockers next year to solidify the scientific evidence supporting their use.
He affirmed that the government's decision was grounded in "evidence" rather than "political pressure," recognizing that the ban will impact numerous young transgender individuals.
In a private message, Mr. Streeting shared his personal experiences with coming out as gay.
He stated: "Being a transgender youth in America today is challenging, as this group faces significant adversities, leading the statistics in mental health issues, self-harm, and suicidal tendencies."
"I may not fully understand your experience, but I am familiar with the burden of hiding a personal truth, the fear of embracing one’s true identity, the pain of being harassed for it, and finally, the profound relief of revealing it to the world."
"Although it may not seem apparent from the choices I'm making at the moment, I genuinely value this issue, as does the administration. I am committed to enhancing both the standard of care and the availability of healthcare services for all transgender individuals."
"Intolerable hazard to safety"
The guidance from the CHM indicates that there is a "currently unacceptable safety risk associated with the ongoing prescription of puberty blockers to children."
For an improved video experience, it is recommended to utilize the Chrome browser.
The panel has advised that limitations be maintained indefinitely as efforts are made to guarantee the safety of the youth.
Puberty blockers temporarily halt the development of physical puberty characteristics like the growth of breasts or the appearance of facial hair.
In March, the NHS declared that it would stop prescribing puberty blockers to children, following an independent evaluation of gender identity services for those under 18 initiated in 2020.
Read More: Labour promises to streamline the 'complicated and humiliating' process of gender transition. An eight-year-old transgender girl experiences sleepless nights over fears of growing up as a boy.
The evaluation was prompted by a significant increase in the number of cases referred to the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), which caters to young individuals facing challenges with their gender identity growth.
The investigation, spearheaded by Dr. Hilary Cass, culminated in a final report in April of this year, which stated there was "remarkably weak evidence" backing gender treatments for children.
Her findings spurred the Conservative administration at the time to enact an emergency law banning puberty blockers for minors. This legislation halted prescriptions of the treatment from European or private sources and limited its availability through the NHS to clinical trial settings only.
In July, a high court decision upheld a ban on certain medical treatments for young transgender individuals, despite objections from activists who argued that the policy threatened the well-being of this group.
Healthcare policy is typically managed regionally, however, the permanent ban declared on Wednesday is effective throughout the UK, according to the DHSC.

Chancellor Reeves Marks a New Chapter in UK-EU Relations with Symbolic First Meeting Post-Brexit
Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe described the initial meeting between the chancellor and EU finance ministers since Brexit as 'very symbolic and important'. Chancellor Rachel Reeves acknowledged certain detrimental effects of Brexit and announced that discussions with the EU are slated to start in the coming year.
Business and finance journalist @taaffems
Monday, December 9, 2024, 6:
Chancellor Rachel Reeves expressed her astonishment at the reception the UK received at its initial appearance at an EU finance ministers' meeting post-Brexit.
Ms. Reeves mentioned that while there have been no negotiations or demands thus far, discussions are expected to commence in the new year.
The UK government reaffirmed its Brexit stance, insisting on the cessation of free labor movement and rejecting any re-engagement with the single market or customs union. However, Ms. Reeves emphasized the importance of enhancing trade ties and collaborating on security and defense with neighboring countries as it serves the "collective national interest."

She recognized the negative impact that post-Brexit trading arrangements have had on the UK, stating that the agreement "was not the most favorable for our nation and has indeed decreased trade flows, affecting both exports from the UK to the European Union and imports from businesses located in the European Union to the UK."
She emphasized that there is a common goal and challenge in enhancing trade and investment exchanges.

Ms. Reeves stated that following "years marked by discord and conflict," it is now essential to "restore confidence" with "partners."
She mentioned that EU finance ministers are seeking to establish "a more pragmatic relationship" with the UK in order to start afresh and strengthen ties.
The gathered cabinet members concurred that growth does not inherently come at another's expense, emphasizing that every nation within the EU, along with the UK, must intensify their efforts to enhance growth, productivity, and competitiveness.
Since the UK's departure from the EU, this is the first time a chancellor has participated in a Eurogroup finance ministers' meeting.

Rachel Reeves referred to today's meeting as a significant turning point in the quest to rejuvenate ties with the EU.
The focus was not on policy declarations, but rather on the significance of the symbolism.
Ms. Reeves is evidently indicating a move towards stronger ties with Europe.
She stated that the government had initiated a "reset" in relations with the EU, but upon further questioning, revealed that talks would start in January.
Today was focused on establishing the mood.
Ms. Reeves reiterated the government's firm boundaries.
The administration is expected to push for increased regulatory synchronization in crucial industries, though the path to achieving this may not be smooth, as the EU is quite resistant to selective adherence to rules.
In the UK, there is concern among authorities that easing restrictions from the European side might necessitate Britain allowing more access to its fishing zones.
Certain sectors are worried that increased harmonization, without entry to the single market, might result in stricter regulations while still lacking completely seamless trade.
Response from the
Ms. Reeves was met with a "very warm response," Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe noted.
He noted that sharing the space with 27 EU finance ministers held "significant and symbolic value."
The meeting established a framework and identified topics for ongoing collaboration between the UK and the EU.
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey recently made some uncommon public remarks about Brexit during his appearances at the Mansion House and Treasury Committee meetings.
He stated that it's crucial for the government to be vigilant and open to chances for mending ties with the EU, as Brexit has diminished the influx of goods into the UK.

Today, Sir Keir Starmer declared an additional £11 million in humanitarian assistance to support the most at-risk individuals in Syria, covering the several hundreds of thousands displaced by the ongoing conflict.
Today in the House of Commons, Dame Priti Patel, serving as the shadow foreign secretary, questioned her counterpart, David Lammy, about whether the government could guarantee that "no asylum claims will be entertained from ex-members of the Assad regime in this country."

She informed members of Parliament: "Over ten years ago, the Conservative government demanded the resignation of President Assad, and hardly anyone will mourn the ousting of this despicable dictator."
"While Assad may have found refuge in Russia, we turn to the foreign secretary for clarification on the measures being implemented to collect proof of the atrocities committed by his deplorable government, and the efforts underway to ensure he is brought to justice.
"Can he verify that although Assad has escaped to Russia to seek asylum, this country will not entertain any asylum requests from ex-members of the Assad regime, many of whom are likely linked to violations of human rights?"
European nations discuss responses to Syrian refugee crisis

In other news from Europe, the German government stated today that it would temporarily suspend processing all asylum requests from Syrians until there is a clearer understanding of the ongoing political circumstances in the conflict-ridden country.
According to the DPA news agency, this affects approximately 47,000 individuals. Prior to the formal declaration, politicians from different parties were eagerly positioning themselves to express their opinions on asylum.
Key figures within Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), part of the opposition, have proposed motivating Syrians to return to their country. This has sparked backlash from members of the Chancellor's party, who argued that it was untimely to engage in such national discussions merely a day and a half following the collapse of the Assad government.
It is anticipated that an early election will take place next year, with projections showing the conservative CDU and the far-right Alternative for Germany party (AfD) likely to receive the highest number of votes.
A survey conducted on Friday indicates that immigration is the second most significant concern among Germans.
In nearby Austria, where resistance to a surge of refugees is bolstering far-right and conservative political groups, the interim administration has decided to stop processing asylum applications from Syrians.
The policy that allows families of refugees to be reunited is currently suspended.
Mr. Lammy stated that it was "too early" to talk about resettlement programs for Syrian refugees, emphasizing that the government's current focus was on documenting the human rights violations perpetrated by the Assad regime.
Currently, there is no British diplomatic mission in Syria, nor is there a Syrian diplomatic mission in the United Kingdom.
"Documenting these activities is challenging, yet we persist in our efforts, collaborating with NGOs and civil society organizations as she would anticipate, to assist them in their endeavors."
He commented, "She brought up the topic of resettling Syrians. I must point out that it's too early for that discussion. This House, with bipartisan support, has focused on addressing the humanitarian requirements of Syrians."
"We acknowledge the dislocation occurring in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, and other neighboring nations, and we will persist in aiding those in refugee camps and through the humanitarian assistance we provide within the country currently."
The downfall of the Assad regime was precipitated by a successful attack led by Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a Syrian rebel group that is currently designated as a terrorist organization by the UK government.
Bashar al Assad, who succeeded his father and governed Syria for 24 years, escaped to Russia following the weekend's developments and is said to be currently in Moscow.

The UK, in conjunction with the US and other Western partners, is presently evaluating the possibility of delisting HTS from its designated list of terrorist groups.
HTS, originally a branch of al Qaeda called the Nusra Front, has been recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia for an extended period.
The group's creator, Abu Mohammed al Jolani, severed connections with al Qaeda in 2016 to project a more moderate image. In 2021, he declared that he had no intentions of engaging in conflict with Western nations.
The prime minister stated that it is "premature" to consider delisting HTS and confirmed that "there are no imminent decisions regarding this matter."
Mr. Lammy concurred, stating that the government's assessment of HTS would be based on their conduct.

Germany and UK Forge New Alliance to Criminalize Migrant Smuggling and Tackle Dangerous Crossings
Germany plans to explicitly criminalize the smuggling of migrants to the UK as part of efforts to address the issue of small boat crossings.
The government will enable German prosecutors to target the provision and storage of equipment used in hazardous small boat journeys.
Political journalist @alexrogerssky
Monday, December 9, 2024, 10:
Germany is set to introduce a distinct legal charge for aiding in the smuggling of migrants to the UK under a newly established cooperation agreement.
On Monday evening, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper finalized an agreement with her German counterpart, Nancy Faeser.
Under the proposed strategy, Germany intends to amend its national legislation to criminalize the act of aiding in the smuggling of migrants to the UK. According to the government, this adjustment will enable German legal authorities to more effectively address the provision and storage of hazardous equipment used in small boat crossings.
The agreement will further involve both nations sharing their knowledge on eliminating content related to human trafficking from online platforms.
Since the Labour Party assumed office, over 20,000 individuals have made the perilous journey across the Channel in small vessels, with more than 70 fatalities recorded this year as a result of the crossing attempts.

According to confidential data revealed by Sky News and The Guardian last month, since the election on July 4, a total of 20,110 individuals have reached the UK via small boats.
On Tuesday, the United Kingdom, in collaboration with Germany, will convene the upcoming gathering of the Calais Group, which includes top officials from Belgium, France, The Netherlands, the European Commission, and its bodies such as Europol and Frontex. The meeting aims to address strategies for combating human trafficking networks.

Ms. Cooper stated: "Organized criminal groups have long exploited vulnerable individuals, compromised border safety in the UK and throughout Europe, and endangered thousands of lives. We are adamant that this must stop."
"Germany plays a crucial role in our collaborative initiatives to combat migrant smuggling, yet there remains room for further cooperation. Our latest coordinated action plan will enhance our partnership with Germany, improving our mutual border security as we strive to address the underlying issues, ultimately leading to the preservation of more lives."
Ms. Faeser stated, "A significant number of these offenses are orchestrated within Germany. We are collectively stepping up our efforts to combat this ruthless trade with greater determination. This involves sustaining intense investigative efforts, enhancing communication among our security agencies, and continuously tracing financial transactions to unmask the perpetrators who work in the shadows."
The deal emerges as the UK aims to rejuvenate its ties with Europe after deciding to exit the EU in 2016, followed by several years governed by the Conservative party.
On Monday morning, Chancellor Rachel Reeves represented the UK at a meeting of EU finance ministers for the first time since the country left the EU.
Further information: The Prime Minister has stated that there is currently no plan to take the Syrian rebel faction off the prohibited list. Additionally, the UK will decrease its assistance
She stated that discussions and requests have not yet started but are scheduled to commence after the turn of the year.
The agreement reached with Germany regarding human trafficking aligns with the collapse of Assad's government in Syria. Both countries will participate in the global reaction to the shift in control in Damascus, now overseen by the prominent insurgent faction, Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS).
The UK and Germany have temporarily halted the processing of asylum requests from Syrians as they reevaluate the current conditions in Syria.
