Miguel Oliveira’s Insight: Minor Ducati Weakness Spotted After Surprising German MotoGP Podium Finish
Miguel Oliveira identifies a small flaw in Ducati's performance following a surprising podium finish.
"The abundance of Ducatis occupying the first two rows creates a challenging situation."
Miguel Oliveira pleasantly surprised fans by securing a spot on the podium during the sprint race at the German MotoGP.
His second-place finish marked the inaugural podium appearance for the newly rebranded, US-supported Trackhouse team.
For Oliveira, who has clinched five premier class grand prix victories, it served as a timely affirmation of his skills to compete at the forefront.
He informed TNT Sports about a small weakness he noticed in the Ducatis, which offers some optimism for Sunday.
"I noticed some restrictions in Sectors 1 and 2. I can take shorter lines," Oliveira mentioned.
"But I lack further progress in those areas."
Oliveira secured the second position in qualifying, while Jorge Martin emerged victorious in the sprint race.
He mentioned that he couldn't identify the exact factor that made a difference with his Trackhouse Aprilia. He added that the qualifying session was successful.
"I may not excel in various aspects, but my ability to avoid mistakes consistently is proving beneficial."
"These drivers give it their all every single lap, making it incredibly challenging to keep up with them, let alone pass them!"
"I’ve faced significant challenges this season. Aprilia provided me with a factory motorcycle."
"However, we couldn't get the bike to perform at the level we wanted. The team put in a tremendous amount of work, but occasionally we fell short."
"It's challenging to always have the ideal bike. In today's MotoGP, there are so many Ducatis that they dominate the first two rows, making it tough for us."
Oliveira remarked regarding the sprint on Saturday: "I felt anxious and uncertain about what the race would bring."
"I was aware of my speed. However, competing for something substantial is a whole different experience compared to just practicing!"
"I performed well and avoided errors. However, when trailing Martin, I had no extra energy left."
“After that, the pressure in my front tire increased excessively, making it difficult to control the front of the vehicle.
“At that moment, Martin instinctively moved away from me, and there was nothing I could do to stop it.”
“The tire regained some performance, but our speed remained consistent.
"I have no regrets. I'm satisfied with second place."
This season, Oliveira has not been used to competing against opponents like Martin from Pramac.
"Whether you're battling in the midfield or the rear, a fight is a fight. You always put in maximum effort," he stated.
"I attempted to gather insights on Sunday to determine how we could adjust the bike for optimal performance in the long race."
“I’m thrilled for our American supporters. Today, we accomplished something that fills me with pride.”
