Mercedes Eyes Super Team Dream: Allison Welcomes Prospect of Joining Forces with Adrian Newey
Is it possible for James Allison and Adrian Newey to team up at Mercedes? "I don't see why not."
Could James Allison and Adrian Newey create a powerhouse duo at Mercedes?
Mercedes' technical lead, James Allison, is receptive to the idea of collaborating with Adrian Newey.
Prior to the Miami Grand Prix, Red Bull revealed that Newey is set to depart from the F1 squad in the early part of the following year, concluding a period of widespread rumors.
Newey's potential move to Ferrari has been strongly rumored, but his representative, Eddie Jordan, has refuted these claims.
McLaren and Williams are rumored to be pursuing Newey's endorsement, with Mercedes also expected to show interest due to their poor performance in the current F1 period.
Allison, who rejoined Mercedes as their technical director last year, was inquired about the possibility of collaborating with Newey.
In a conversation with Sky Sports over the Imola weekend, Allison remarked, "While that's a rather speculative question, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. It would, however, be essential to have a clear understanding of each person's role.
"I believe that any team considering Adrian as a capable individual in the marketplace would have the same inquiry about how to integrate someone of his caliber effectively."
Mercedes has experienced its most challenging beginning to an F1 season since 2011, with the team unable to secure a podium finish in the first seven races of the 2024 season.
Securing Newey would provide Mercedes with crucial knowledge in areas they've found challenging, particularly in managing the airflow near the vehicle's base.
It's no shock that Allison firmly believes that Newey would be an instant asset to whichever team he joins.
"Allison mentioned, "Adrian brings value to whichever team he joins. He's a legendary figure in this sport, considering his achievements and the level of success he has attained."
It's undeniable that his addition to any team would instantly boost its speed. The team would certainly need to adapt and strategize effectively to fully benefit from this partnership.
"He would undoubtedly speed up any squad, and I'm confident there will be a robust demand for such an asset."
