Max Verstappen to Aston Martin? Helmut Marko Warns of Potential Challenges as Adrian Newey Joins the Fold
Max Verstappen potentially joining Aston Martin alongside Adrian Newey? "Max competes where victory is possible…" However, Helmut Marko also has a cautionary message for Aston Martin.
Helmut Marko has reacted to Aston Martin showing interest in Max Verstappen.
Adrian Newey's move from Red Bull to Aston Martin, set to start early next year, has sparked significant discussion about a potential shift in team rankings for 2026 when the new Formula 1 rules come into effect.
Mike Krack, the leader of the Aston Martin team, mentioned that Max Verstappen is always welcome to join.
Marko from Red Bull responded to Kleine Zeitung, saying, "Max competes in places where he has the potential to win."
Aston Martin boasts the latest factory, with a wind tunnel set to start functioning next year, and Honda engines will be incorporated as well. All the elements are coming together perfectly.
"Examining historical trends reveals that Newey's influence consistently leads to progress wherever he works."
"I see no reason why things would be any different at Aston Martin."
Marko mentioned regarding Verstappen: “He understands that he has the potential to secure championships with our team as long as we can successfully navigate this current world championship. It’s an essential goal for us.”
It appeared inevitable that Verstappen would secure his fourth straight F1 championship until a dip in performance of his RB20 midseason affected his results.
He enters this weekend's F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix leading the championship by 62 points over Lando Norris.
However, McLaren's speed is exceptional, and Verstappen refers to his vehicle as "a beast" at Monza.
Might Verstappen consider leaving Red Bull after the 2026 season?
Marko issued a cautionary statement, noting that Adrian Newey is unable to commence work until March 1, 2025, which is quite delayed.
"The entire Aston Martin team definitely needs some time to become familiar with one another."
