Adrian Newey’s Wife Defends Against Allegations of Disrespect Towards Lewis Hamilton Over Abu Dhabi Remarks
Adrian Newey's spouse reacts to allegations of "disrespect" towards Lewis Hamilton
Adrian Newey's wife speaks out regarding comments on Abu Dhabi
Adrian Newey's wife asserts that he did not show any disrespect towards Lewis Hamilton when talking about the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Adrian Newey gained significant attention in the Formula 1 community this week following his introduction as the new Managing Technical Partner for Aston Martin.
He is scheduled to leave Red Bull at the beginning of next year and will start his new job in March 2025.
Adrian Newey discussed the events of Abu Dhabi from three years ago on the High Performance Podcast, where race director Michael Masi’s interpretation of the Safety Car regulations led to Hamilton losing the chance to secure his eighth F1 championship.
Max Verstappen secured the championship in the last lap and is currently competing for his fourth consecutive title.
Newey stated that the controversy in Abu Dhabi did not impact him.
"It seems that Mercedes was impacted by it. Rather than acknowledging it and moving forward, it began to influence their mindset, which is quite intriguing."
"That's just my impression from an external perspective. I might be entirely mistaken. They might have been unable to overcome it mentally."
A social media user remarked: “It’s unfortunate that he showed disrespect to Lewis in his remarks to Jake Humphries.”
However, Amanda Newey, who is married to the car design expert, clarified: "No, that's not true. He holds Lewis in high regard."
However, it is improbable that British F1 icons Hamilton and Newey will ever collaborate.
In 2025, Hamilton has joined Ferrari, while Newey, who was also being considered by Ferrari, chose to go with Aston Martin instead.
When questioned by Crash.net in Baku this weekend about whether he feels let down that he won’t be collaborating with Newey next year, Hamilton responded, “To be honest, no.”
"I’ve previously said that collaborating with Adrian would be an honor, but I’ve also had the privilege of working with two championship-winning teams without Adrian."
"Any team would likely have been thrilled to have him. However, he had to make the best decision for himself. This doesn't affect me. My objective and focus on the next step remain unchanged."
"I remain completely convinced that there are many opportunities for us to explore there."
