Marquez Refuses to Offer Title Rival Martin Advice in MotoGP Showdown: ‘I’ll Give It to My Brother and That’s It
Marc Marquez Declines to Offer Guidance to Jorge Martin in the MotoGP Championship Race
"I won't be offering tips to competitors"
Marc Marquez has stated that he will not be offering any guidance to Jorge Martin in his pursuit of the 2024 MotoGP championship.
Heading into the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika this weekend, Martin is at the forefront of the championship standings with a 24-point lead, following his second-place finish at the Emilia Romagna GP last week.
After witnessing his advantage over Francesco Bagnaia decrease to a mere four points following the Misano sprint, an accident involving the latter increased the Pramac rider's lead.
With six races left, the leading quartet in the standings are separated by a mere sixty points, with Marquez currently fourth and openly dismissing himself as a key contender for the title.
Certainly, when inquired about his handling of the championship's stress at this point in the season, the Gresini racer told Motorsport, “Personally, I've already met my goals for the year.
"Thus, continuing to find joy in it will be essential."
In the final part of the previous season, Marquez supported Martin's bid for the championship, citing the lack of pressure on him due to his status as a competitor from a satellite team.
In response to a question during his Spanish media session at Mandalika after the press conference, Marquez mentioned that his compatriot Martin must navigate his path independently.
"Marquez mentioned that he wouldn't offer any guidance to him."
Based on what you've said, I'm continuing to hold my ground in this battle.
"I won't be offering guidance to competitors currently in the race or those who may compete in the future.
"Winning the championship isn't on my mind at the moment, however, Martin remains a competitor now and will continue to be going forward.
"Why would I offer guidance to my competitor? I'd rather provide it to my sibling, and leave it at that."
Marquez has yet to complete a grand prix race at Mandalika, suffering a significant crash during the warm-up in 2022 and experiencing a fall that took him out of the running in the previous year's race.
However, his goal continues to be securing a spot among the top five in Indonesia this weekend with his GP23.
"The Gresini rider expressed a desire to grasp our current situation."
"Indeed, it's accurate to say that in the previous year… I've actually never completed a race here in Indonesia due to a significant accident I experienced during the warm-up session here in 2022."
"It's crucial for us to grasp where we stand currently, aiming to secure a spot once more among the top four or five positions."
"This is a circuit I enjoy. While it's not at the top of my list, it's a course I find appealing and has been consistently average, not outstanding. I'm eager to get to grips with it on the Ducati."
