Marc Marquez’s Bold Rejection: Unveiling the Real Reason Behind Turning Down Ducati’s Initial Offer
Marc Marquez clarifies the reason behind his refusal of the initial Ducati contract term
"It's straightforward," Marc Marquez stated…
Marc Marquez has revealed the reasons behind his decision to decline a preliminary contract provision offered by Ducati.
Next year, Marquez is set to transition to the factory Ducati team from Gresini.
In 2025, Jorge Martin from Pramac will join the MotoGP roster for Aprilia, following recent developments.
Initially, Ducati had extended the prestigious factory seat to Martin, however, it was tied to a specific condition in the contract: should Marquez clinch the championship title this year, he would be elevated to the official team, displacing Martin.
Martin agreed to the conditions, whereas Marquez declined.
For what reason
"He made it clear," he conveyed to AS.
A primary reason is that, to achieve victory on the track, equal tools are necessary.
"Now, they're no longer in my possession."
Marquez was alluding to the Ducati from last year that he is presently competing on for the Gresini team.
Martin, along with his competitors for the title, Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini, are equipped with the most recent model of their machinery.
"However, that doesn't justify it," stated Marquez.
"I'm demonstrating my ability to compete."
"I also made it explicitly clear that I had no intention of switching from one satellite squad to another."
"Furthermore, the third aspect to consider is that athletes have agreements beyond just their sports contracts. I've had sponsors supporting my career continuously, and one global company is set to finalize a deal in September for the upcoming two years, making any delay impossible. It just wasn't feasible."
Marquez unequivocally stated that moving to Pramac, despite their ability to provide the GP25 he wanted, was not an option for him. This surprising position ultimately compelled Ducati to reverse their initial plan of allocating the official bike to Martin for the upcoming year.
The ongoing battle for this year's championship, presently topped by Martin, will unfold with the added narrative of Martin's switch to Aprilia and Marquez's transfer to the official Ducati squad, set for 2025.
