Marc Marquez Defies Adversity for P2 Finish at German MotoGP Despite Injuries and Technical Setbacks
Exclusive: Marc Marquez Refused Last-Minute Bike Adjustment at German MotoGP
Marc Marquez 'simply endured' instead of opting for an altered set-up
Marc Marquez turned down a last-minute adjustment to his bike intended to alleviate his injuries.
The Gresini Ducati racer opted for a bike that increased his likelihood of achieving a strong performance, despite the discomfort it caused to his injuries from Friday.
On Friday, Marquez experienced a crash that led to a fractured finger and rib pain. Following this, a disappointing qualifying session left him starting in 13th position.
Marquez secured a second-place finish, trailing behind Pecco Bagnaia who capitalized on Jorge Martin's fall from the lead.

Marquez faced additional challenges when he collided with Franco Morbidelli, resulting in a broken screen and the deployment of his airbag.
“Adrenaline kicked in. He achieved his quickest first sector of the weekend, despite lacking a screen and wind protection,” Marquez’s crew chief Frankie Carchedi mentioned to TNT Sports.
Carchedi praised Marquez's exceptional performance, saying, "Calling it unique is putting it mildly. Throughout my career, I've never experienced a weekend quite like this."
"You always create a strategy, deciding on the number of laps and which bike to use. We might as well have skipped the planning because everything went off course!"
"We encountered a technical issue and had to switch to a different bike."
On Saturday, we got everything ready just in case he decided to go out, though we didn't know for sure until the very last moment.
"It turned out to be an unexpected benefit. None of the plans were successful."
“During the qualifying session, we experienced a technical issue with one of the bikes, which forced us to switch to a different one, and then we had to deal
"Yesterday, he faced difficulties in Sector 1, particularly with the two right-hand turns, due to issues with his ribs."
Today, we made an unusual adjustment to the bike to address an injury. Our goal was to increase its agility to assist him.
"It resolved his issue, but he declined."
"Our starting point for FP1 was the setup he used at the beginning of the race, and he pushed through with determination."
“We discussed the importance of completing the race and accumulating as many points as possible. Overtaking is extremely challenging.
Luckily, both Marc and our team excelled in the final segment.
"He achieved his quickest time in Sector 1 during the final lap of the weekend."
Airbag "injured" – "you can't catch your breath"
The collision with Pramac’s Morbidelli, which jolted Marquez and caused damage to his motorcycle, motivated him to push harder.
“This spurred him into taking action,” Michael Laverty commented on TNT Sports.
"Frankie was moving wide, and then got back on track. With the door open, Marc attempted to maneuver his GP23 through the gap."
"Impact occurs, the airbag deploys, the display is shattered."
"Their legs collided; it was just a racing incident. This ignited something in Marc – it was time to compete!"
As they approach the next turn, Enea Bastianini overtakes him. Despite having his airbag deployed, he battles fiercely at the hill's peak, reclaiming his position from Enea.
Sylvain Guintoli described the effect of an airbag deployment: "It would have caused significant pain to his ribs. Although it does eventually deflate, the process is not immediate."
"When it triggers, it causes significant discomfort. It would have been painful."
"The airbag expands around your arms, sides, and back, making everything feel extremely tight and causing difficulty in breathing."
"After the encounter with Morbidelli, he became highly motivated, took every risk, and acted without concern."
Laverty commented, “Marc thrives on pain; it motivates him into action. He is truly remarkable.”
Guintoli stated: "Giving up is not an option. Every possible mishap occurred – numerous technical issues, a crash, an injury, on-track traffic, failing to reach Q2, and starting from 13th position."
"Regardless of everything, we must persist and continually push forward."
For the first time in nine MotoGP races at the Sachsenring, Marquez did not secure a victory.
He currently holds the third position in the MotoGP rankings, trailing the new leader Bagnaia by 56 points.
