Liam Lawson’s Red Bull 2025 Audition: Christian Horner Teases Potential F1 Promotion
Christian Horner suggests Liam Lawson could be in the running for a Red Bull F1 seat in 2025
Christian Horner has implied that Liam Lawson may have an opportunity to secure a spot with Red Bull's F1 team in 2025.
Christian Horner indicated that Liam Lawson could potentially secure a Formula 1 position with Red Bull in the 2025 season.
Lawson has been brought in to join Red Bull's affiliated team RB for the rest of the 2024 Formula 1 season. He is stepping in for Daniel Ricciardo, who was let go following the Singapore race. The 22-year-old from New Zealand has six races to make his mark, beginning with the United States Grand Prix.
Red Bull's team leader, Horner, has suggested that Lawson may get an opportunity to move up to the main team and possibly take over Sergio Perez's spot, although Perez is signed through the end of 2025.
"We require explanations regarding the broader context involving the drivers," Horner mentioned on the F1 Nation podcast.
With six races left in the season, it's an ideal chance to place Liam next to Yuki Tsunoda and evaluate his performance in the final six Grand Prix events.
"This situation extends beyond VCARB; it involves Red Bull Racing as a whole. While we do have an agreement with Sergio for the upcoming year, it's essential to stay vigilant about future possibilities."
"Will Liam be the one, or should we consider external options? Could one of the other juniors, such as Isack Hadjar or Arvid Lindblad, eventually rise to the occasion?"
Following five substitute appearances last season while Ricciardo was sidelined due to injury, Lawson will have another opportunity to demonstrate his abilities alongside Yuki Tsunoda, who has already secured his spot at RB for the upcoming year.
"According to Horner, Liam joined the race last year, outperforming Yuki in both Singapore and Japan. He showed impressive speed right from the start and proved to be a formidable competitor. His adaptability is well-known."
"Without a doubt, the assessments he has undertaken with the Red Bull Racing car this year have been highly promising."
“It’s clear that Yuki is an exceptionally quick driver. He certainly has the ability to deliver a strong lap.”
“He’s no longer a newcomer. Now in his fourth year of grand prix racing, he has accumulated considerable experience.”
"Using Daniel as a reference, we observed how he measured up against Yuki. It will be quite intriguing to observe Liam's performance in the final six races."
