Leclerc’s British GP Woes: A Race “Worse Than a Nightmare” Amid Ferrari’s Struggles
Charles Leclerc describes the F1 British Grand Prix as "beyond a nightmare" amid ongoing struggles.
"It's incredibly difficult, incredibly difficult, I'm almost at a loss for words to describe it…"
Charles Leclerc referred to his F1 British Grand Prix experience as "beyond a nightmare," highlighting a continuation of his struggles since his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Leclerc missed out on earning points once more due to a poorly timed change to intermediate tires that did not yield the desired results.
The driver from Ferrari, alongside Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, was among the early racers to switch to intermediate tires.
After eight laps, the rain started to pour down heavily, leading to Leclerc being overtaken a lap by the time the conditions called for intermediate tires.
Discussing his choice to switch to intermediate tires, Leclerc shared with reporters at Silverstone, where Crash.net is on-site in the paddock, "It was definitively the incorrect decision. I'll review the decision-making process, considering the message I received and the information at hand, it seemed like the correct move at the time, especially with the heavy rain.
I had been informed that a significant downpour was expected, prompting me to prepare in advance. However, the rain arrived much later, around 8 or 9 laps afterward, effectively marking the end of our race. It was an incredibly frustrating experience, adding to yet another weekend I'd rather leave behind. It's becoming quite a pattern.
Following his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, Leclerc has only managed to finish in the points on one occasion, significantly diminishing his chances of competing for the Formula 1 championship title.
"It's extremely difficult, beyond words, really. The past four races have felt worse than any nightmare, so I'm hoping for a quick turnaround," he further mentioned.
“Finding silver linings on days like today is quite challenging. I’m eager to return with the team, scrutinize our decision-making processes, and understand why things didn’t go our way this time.”
Leclerc has faced misfortune, and Ferrari has fallen behind Mercedes in the Formula 1 rankings.
The latest update has led to significant instability at fast speeds.
The significant effect of the bouncing led Ferrari to switch back to their previous vehicle model at Silverstone.
"Indeed, we're currently navigating through a challenging scenario," he clarified. "While the update delivered the anticipated results in terms of performance metrics, it unexpectedly caused significant instability at high speeds. Given the nature of this circuit, we opted for a slight reduction in performance in favor of increased stability. I believe we made the correct decision."
"Moving ahead, we will examine the information from both packages to determine if there were any aspects of the new one that we didn't fully grasp."
