Labour’s Left-Wing Purge: Corbyn Accuses Starmer of Intervening in Candidate Selection Amid Gaza Ceasefire Advocacy
Jeremy Corbyn has accused Sir Keir Starmer of actively participating in the removal of left-leaning Labour candidates. Corbyn, who is currently campaigning as an independent in the general election, noted that the individuals excluded from Labour's roster had all previously advocated for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

Ex-Labour chief Jeremy Corbyn has charged Sir Keir Starmer with overtly interfering in the exclusion of left-leaning candidates within the party.
Recent days have seen widespread media coverage concerning Diane Abbott's eligibility to contest the upcoming election as a Labour candidate on July 4th. This issue, alongside the suspension of Lloyd Russell-Moyle and the exclusion of Faiza Shaheen, has sparked accusations from the left-wing faction of the party that the leadership is targeting them.
While Sir Keir has maintained that the decisions are in the hands of the party's national executive committee, Mr. Corbyn, now running as an independent candidate following his own expulsion from the party, has directed his criticism towards his successor.
Breaking News: Another Tory MP Switches Allegiance to Labour
In a discussion with Sky News political correspondent Serena Barker-Singh, the former leader commented on Ms Abbott, Mr Russell-Moyle, and Ms Shaheen, stating, "What unites the individuals who have been ousted is their position on the left wing of the party and their unanimous support for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza."

He suggested that the claims about Ms. Shaheen being barred from running because of tweets she favored on X about Israel seemed somewhat unsubstantial, stating: "The Labour Party's processes should be stronger and more transparent than this."
When questioned if Sir Keir was responsible for the decisions, Mr. Corbyn remarked, "He sometimes asserts that he's not involved, and at other times, he admits he made the decision. He really needs to decide which it is."
"The leader should maintain autonomy from the other operations. However, it's evident that he is interfering throughout the process."
The left is learning through tough experiences about Starmer's departure from the policies of 2019

Jeremy Corbyn has cast a significant shadow over this general election campaign, despite no longer being an MP for the Labour Party or a member of the party itself for quite a while.
The Conservative Party continually attempts to link Sir Keir Starmer, the present Labour leader, with his predecessor, aiming to merge their political ideologies in the public eye.
The Labour Party is actively striving to separate itself from its 2019 era, a shift that is proving to be particularly challenging for the left-wing faction within the party.
Last evening, left-leaning members of the party charged Starmer with executing a "purge" against progressive candidates. This followed an unexpected announcement to several hopefuls, who had initiated their campaigns, that they were now disqualified from representing the party in their expected constituencies.
Faiza Shaheen expressed to me her belief that her situation arose not from any tweets she had liked, but due to her opinions on the Gaza conflict.
Jeremy Corbyn expressed to me his belief that the Labour Party no longer represents a wide range of views, but rather focuses exclusively on centrist ideologies. He views this shift as a targeted exclusion of those who offer differing perspectives.
Today, Sir Keir stated that his focus is not on excluding left-wing candidates, but rather on ensuring that only the most qualified candidates are selected for this election.
That remark has ignited intense anger among many candidates. A previous high-ranking Labour advisor described the leadership as "little boys intoxicated with power," while others feel deeply insulted, perceiving the comment as a direct attack on their integrity.
They believe that appearances are unimportant because, in their view, the leaders are seeai-allcreator.com">king a confrontation—they think the plan is to appear strong against 'extreme' elements.
Faiza Shaheen has openly discussed the excessive impact on people of color resulting from last night's decisions, expressing concern over the implications for electoral support. "This is not the message Labour should be conveying to Black and brown voters," she states.
People who have gone through similar ordeals themselves have described Faiza Shaheen's scenario as a setup. Additionally, I've been informed that the leadership has been summoning departing MPs critical of the leadership to meetings with the office of the leader.
Whether by deliberate design or simply as a result of the selection process, the left now feels certain about their position according to the recently revitalized Labour Party.
Mr. Corbyn's departure from Labour was marked by considerable upheaval following his four-year leadership tenure.
In 2020, he was expelled from the parliamentary group following his assertion that a report on antisemitism during his leadership was excessively exaggerated for political purposes.
However, he was completely expelled from the party after he declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in Islington North, following his prohibition from representing Labour in that constituency.
Mr. Corbyn was accused of meddling in the disciplinary procedures related to claims of antisemitism during his leadership, allegations he refuted.
Sir Keir asserts that he has enhanced the system's impartiality by transferring authority to the NEC since assuming his position.
