Jorge Martin Optimistic After Clever Use of Test Data Boosts Performance Despite Crash at Emilia Romagna GP
Crash didn't dampen Jorge Martin's spirits; test data provided a boost
Jorge Martin shares his Friday highlights
Jorge Martin, who currently leads the MotoGP championship, praised his Pramac team for their smart strategies during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix practice, noting that they utilized test data effectively to enhance his performance.
The Spanish rider arrived at the second Misano event with only a seven-point lead over Francesco Bagnaia. This narrow margin followed a failed strategy during the flag-to-flag San Marino Grand Prix.
Martin wrapped up Friday at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in second place, trailing behind Bagnaia. His performance came despite a minor accident towards the end of the practice session. He was among eight riders who experienced falls during a crash-heavy second practice.
In addition to demonstrating improved speed over a single lap compared to the San Marino GP weekend, Martin also enhanced his performance during extended runs. He attributes this progress to data gathered from the test at Misano last Monday.
"I managed to surpass my previous record here, so I believe that's already a positive sign," Martin remarked.
"I'm confident about my speed and riding skills. I believe we made smart decisions today. We're on the right path, and hopefully, we can enhance our performance in the qualifiers tomorrow."
"Without a doubt, it was crucial to avoid any accidents this morning because the likelihood of crashing was high."
“In the afternoon, we effectively utilized the data gathered from the tests to enhance the motorcycle and its configuration."
"My primary objective was to make progress with the soft tires, and we also saw improvements with the medium tires. Overall, it turned out to be a productive day."
After facing difficulties and securing fourth place on the starting grid at the San Marino Grand Prix, Martin aimed to enhance his performance in the qualifying rounds, a goal he believes he has now achieved.
Although Martin began the previous race in fourth position, he managed to surge ahead at the first corner during the sprint, maintaining his lead throughout all the laps to secure victory.
"My primary goal was to improve my qualifying," he mentioned.
"We appear to have enhanced our performance here in Misano. Given the current level of grip, I found it challenging to fully utilize my maximum potential. However, it now seems we have bridged the gap to reach my full capability."
