Joan Mir Shocks MotoGP World with New Two-Year Deal to Stay with Repsol Honda Despite Struggles
Joan Mir and Honda are expected to resolve their challenging collaboration in an unexpected way. Reports suggest Joan Mir will soon announce surprising developments.
According to reports, Joan Mir is expected to agree to a new deal to remain with Repsol Honda.
According to Motorsport, Mir has signed a new contract that extends his tenure until the conclusion of 2026.
The report is quite unexpected given Mir's significant struggles during his one and a half seasons with Repsol Honda.
The 2020 MotoGP champion switched to Honda following Suzuki's withdrawal from the competition, but has faced significant challenges since then.
The previous year was marred by numerous accidents. However, since Marc Marquez, his teammate, departed earlier this year, Mir has experienced fewer crashes but remains positioned near the end of the lineup.
This season, his top performance in a grand prix has been finishing in 12th place twice.
Mir's agreement with Honda was set to expire this year, prompting him to consider other options.
In Mugello, he mentioned that he would delay his decision until he had received all the offers, allowing him to make an informed choice.
He acknowledged, "No one leaves Honda in a better condition than when they started."
"When I joined Honda, I had numerous opportunities… But now the situation is different."
“I need to wait because there are others who are currently more important.”
"This is somewhat the truth. Your past actions are irrelevant."
"Currently, the focus is on the performance of 4-5 other riders, as they are producing the results."
However, according to reports from Mir's native Spain, he has decided to stay with the Honda team for the upcoming two years.
An official confirmation has not been provided yet.
