Hulkenberg’s Heroic Defense Against Red Bull Highlights Haas’ Revival at Singapore Grand Prix
"The specific car, whether it's a Red Bull or any other, doesn't matter to me," states the F1 defensive driving specialist. "Securing those points is what truly matters."
In the F1 Singapore Grand Prix, Nico Hulkenberg of Haas successfully secured points by bravely holding back a Red Bull towards the end of the race.
Hulkenberg's exceptional defensive skills have significantly enhanced his reputation, as he has consistently exceeded expectations throughout the year.
Hulkenberg secured the ninth spot in Singapore after he managed to pass McLaren's Oscar Piastri (although he later relinquished the spot), subsequently held off Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, but ultimately fell behind following a pit stop.
Crucially, he managed to keep Red Bull’s Sergio Perez at bay during the final moments.
"We managed to succeed, placing ourselves in an advantageous position right from the qualifying round. I had a strong start and a smooth race," the experienced driver shared.
"It doesn't matter to me whether it's Red Bull or anyone else, securing those points is what counts."
He expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing the importance of scoring points.
Seen from that perspective, it was positive. There are several aspects to examine and evaluate regarding strategy, but apart from that, it was a smooth race.
"The second half proved to be less dramatic, yet maintaining a lead over Red Bull throughout was quite taxing."
"Bringing it to the finish line was challenging due to the tyre issues, but we succeeded. I'm pleased and it feels somewhat like a comeback after last week's setback."
Last year, Haas ended up at the end of the constructors' standings, but they have found new energy under the guidance of Ayao Komatsu.
Hulkenberg's sixth successful point accumulation this season has secured him a transfer to Sauber in 2025.
At 37 years old, the German racer will lead Audi's foray into Formula 1 in 2026.
Next season, Haas is set to team up newcomer Ollie Bearman alongside Esteban Ocon.
Kevin Magnussen, coming back from a one-event suspension in Singapore, will be relinquishing his Formula 1 position in 2025.
Magnussen withdrew from the Singapore Grand Prix due to a tire puncture.
"Magnussen mentioned, "Our strategy was to extend our stint, anticipating a safety car scenario during the mid-phase, which unfortunately did not occur."
"Obviously, we had to shorten it since we were simply not fast enough on the hard tires, and then I experienced a tire puncture."
"Our performance has been strong in the latest competitions. The car is currently in an excellent condition. I believe we're expecting some enhancements for the upcoming race, and there's reason to be optimistic about every event for the remainder of the season."
