From ‘Strange’ Dominance to Future Triumphs: How Mercedes’ Las Vegas Victory Fuels 2025 F1 Aspirations
Mercedes believes that their strong performance in Las Vegas may provide insights beneficial for the development of their Formula 1 car for the 2025 season.
Mercedes is confident that their unexpected superiority at the Las Vegas Grand Prix might provide insights for improving the consistency of their 2025 Formula 1 car.
Following a period of diminished competitiveness since their summer hiatus, Mercedes made a surprising comeback in Las Vegas. George Russell led the charge, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton, marking the team's first one-two finish since their success in Brazil in 2022.

Mercedes secured their fourth victory of the season, marking their first triumph since the Belgian Grand Prix in late July. Team principal Toto Wolff believes that the cooler weather conditions in Las Vegas contributed to their impressive performance.
"It's chilly. Wolff clarified that you can easily see the connection to where we've had success."
"We performed well at Silverstone, showed strength at Spa, and again here in Las Vegas. The key is maintaining the car's performance and ensuring the tyres are in their ideal state."
"The text highlights the impressive speed of the car, noting that at certain points, particularly when George was accelerating, it was two seconds faster than the competitors. For the remainder of the day, he focused on maintaining a steady pace."
He explained: "Losing traction in hot conditions often causes you to slide around constantly. However, in this situation, losing traction was beneficial because it helped maintain the necessary temperature levels."
"There's a noticeable trend where certain teams excel and perform exceptionally well in cold conditions, while other teams have shown great strength in hot weather."
In Singapore, the McLaren team, for instance, had a commanding performance and managed the race according to their strategy. Therefore, achieving a balanced approach for the upcoming year is crucial.
Wolff expressed surprise that Mercedes managed to avoid the graining problems that affected some of their competitors, with Ferrari being a notable example.
"We had the ability to accelerate at will, with no issues related to tire graining on either the medium or hard compounds," he stated. "Charles made several efforts to challenge George, but George defended his position excellently."
"I'm not sure what the result might have been, but Leclerc ended up going off the cliff after just a few laps. He couldn't maintain the speed, and we didn't notice any signs of tire graining or wear."
Wolff believes that the information gathered from the Vegas event will be essential for Mercedes to identify and comprehend the present shortcomings of the W15.
"This is a significant outcome," he commented. "There are variations during the weekend, and typically you can observe that we've performed well in some practice sessions, while our performance hasn't been as strong in others."
"In this case, we consistently outperformed in each session. We've gathered a wealth of valuable information that helps us understand our ideal conditions, and now we know where we need to aim. The next step is figuring out how to reach that point more frequently."

Jos Verstappen Urges Red Bull to Regain Dominance Despite Max’s Fourth F1 Title Triumph
Jos Verstappen urges Red Bull to improve their performance even though Max Verstappen secured the F1 championship. "Naturally, we wish he could, but he's not driving the quickest car, or else he would dominate every race."
Jos Verstappen has urged Red Bull to "pull themselves together" even after Max Verstappen secured his fourth straight F1 championship.
The Red Bull racer secured his fourth championship by finishing in fifth place at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Since the Spanish Grand Prix, Max has only managed to win a single race, as McLaren and Ferrari have shown improved performance.
Red Bull encountered difficulties in advancing the RB20, resulting in their fall in the rankings.
Although this year's car is more user-friendly, it has often lagged behind the McLaren and Ferrari in terms of speed in the latest races.
Jos firmly believes that improvements are necessary for Max to secure a fifth consecutive championship.
In response to his son's championship win, Jos mentioned to Verstappen.com: "The event in Brazil was absolutely incredible. His performance, moving up from the back of the pack and consistently setting the quickest laps during the final ten laps, truly confirmed the championship for me."
When questioned about the prospects for next year, the response was: “It’s impossible to predict. Naturally, we wish that he could, but without the quickest car, winning all the races isn’t feasible. Improvements are necessary for competitiveness in the coming year.”
"The group is aware of the necessary changes, and it is their responsibility to implement them."
The 52-year-old confessed to feeling "anxious" before the race, despite not being physically present at the Red Bull garage in Las Vegas.
He admitted to feeling anxious, saying he woke up at four in the morning and couldn't get back to sleep. "There's always that sense of tension," he remarked, "but he achieved it. It might not have been exactly how Max hoped, but the important thing is that he succeeded."
"I was under the weather with a mild flu, so I decided to keep my distance to avoid giving it to Max. Additionally, the time zone difference is an issue, and I need to prepare for my own upcoming race."
"We had an advantage, but it hinged on how the car would evolve. I wasn’t always optimistic, but Max demonstrated his true capabilities, particularly in Brazil. His performance there was extraordinary and ultimately secured him the championship."

A long-standing Formula 1 record, held for 43 years, was surpassed during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, thanks to George Russell's victory.
George Russell's win at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in Formula 1 has resulted in the breaking of a record that stood for 43 years.

Max Verstappen, the 2024 Formula 1 champion, has secured victory in eight races. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris have each claimed three wins.
George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz, and Oscar Piastri each have claimed victory twice.
Featuring seven distinct multiple-time winners, this surpasses the previous record of six set in 1981.
In 1981, Nelson Piquet, who secured the Formula 1 championship, claimed victory in three races, matching the achievement of his closest competitor, Alain Prost.
Alan Jones, Carlos Reutemann, Gilles Villeneuve, and Jacques Laffite each secured two victories.
In 1981, John Watson also emerged victorious, although he only secured one win.
In 2024, Sergio Perez stands out as the sole driver among the leading four teams who did not secure a win.
Should the Mexican driver secure victories in the last two races, Formula 1 would boast eight drivers with multiple wins in 2024, underscoring the high level of competition this season.
As the regulations are unchanged during the winter, the competition among the leading four teams might become more intense.
McLaren is the sole team to keep both of their drivers for the 2025 season.
Norris is set to continue partnering with Piastri for a third consecutive year.
Hamilton is stepping in for Sainz at Ferrari, partnering with Leclerc, as Andrea Kimi Antonelli takes over the spot vacated by the seven-time world champion at Mercedes.
Although Perez is under contract for the following year, his recent lackluster performance might lead to his replacement by either Yuki Tsunoda, Liam Lawson, or Franco Colapinto.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull Drivers Steer Towards New Horizons with Acura ARX-06 GTP Test
Red Bull's Verstappen and Teammates Try Out Honda Acura ARX-06 GTP
Max Verstappen, along with his teammates, experience driving a new vehicle.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull, shortly after securing his fourth consecutive World Championship in Formula One on the Las Vegas circuit, was already contemplating his eventual retirement. The Dutch driver mentioned that a time will come when he desires to "take it a bit easier."
Max Verstappen concluded the thrilling nighttime Formula 1 race exactly where he began, in fifth position. At 27 years old, he needed to finish just one spot ahead of his championship contender, McLaren's Lando Norris, to secure the title on American grounds. With this achievement, he mathematically ensured his victory with two races remaining in the season.

After securing his initial goal of winning four World Championships, Verstappen's thoughts have started to drift.
"I have a passion for racing and enjoy challenging myself against top competitors in the field," he expressed.
"However, a time will come when I simply want to unwind more, you know? Life is short. As you approach your late 30s or early 40s, it's only natural that your body begins to slow down a little, right? Sure, I could continue in Formula One, but I also want to explore other things, enjoy life, reflect, and make the most out of my time on Earth."
Certainly, the main objective is to secure eight titles, which would indeed be incredible. However, it's not absolutely essential.

Throughout the weekend, all eyes were on the Dutch star, especially considering the high stakes. The attention began as early as Wednesday before the race when Verstappen made his way to Las Vegas Speedway. There, he had the opportunity to test the Acura ARX-06 GTP vehicle during a promotional event for the Honda Civic Hybrid.
The full roster of Red Bull's Formula 1 team, featuring Sergio Pérez and both VCARB drivers, gathered for some multi-discipline entertainment. Meanwhile, Honda invited Scott Dixon, a six-time IndyCar champion, allowing Yuki Tsunoda—who faced potential entry issues into the USA—to drive Chip Ganassi's championship-winning IndyCar.
Colin Braun, driving the 2025 Meyer Shank Acura GTP, provided guidance to Verstappen in the ACURA ARX-06. Verstappen, meanwhile, was considering strategies for swift driver swaps in an upcoming endurance race.
He remarked that the shift to a closed cockpit and wearing a helmet would be significant for him, moments before speeding down the track.

Las Vegas was adorned with stars and stripes as over 70 celebrities attended the Grand Prix on Saturday. However, it was the Mercedes team, symbolized by their iconic three-pointed star, that stole the spotlight on the racetrack. George Russell took the lead, followed by Lewis Hamilton, securing Mercedes' 60th one-two finish. This marked the team's first such achievement since the São Paulo race in 2022.
The factory team dominated each session, making the weekend's events incredibly seamless, which was a stark difference from 2023. That year marked F1's return to Las Vegas after 40 years, but the event was marred by damaged water valve covers on the track. This issue disrupted the first practice session and pushed back the second, following the destruction of Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and damage to Esteban Ocon’s Alpine.
"Faced with a challenging initiation during the inaugural event, Las Vegas Grand Prix CEO Renee Wilm explained that the organizing team lacked the time and resources to perfect everything in the first year."
Wilm mentioned that they had a year and a half to organize the inaugural Grand Prix, which in hindsight seems quite absurd.
"Emily Prazer, the Chief Commercial Officer, and I initially didn't realize the extent of collaboration required and the significant resources needed for certain aspects that weren't directly related to Formula 1."
"We were skilled at organizing hospitality and had a clear vision for the Paddock Club. We understood the process of constructing a racetrack. However, we lacked the necessary resources in our first year to effectively handle certain aspects, such as communication, traffic management, and collaboration with officials and public works."
However, memories faded following an exhilarating inaugural race, which saw spectators and major brands come back in large numbers for an even more impressive 2024 event. This edition also featured a support category in the Ferrari Challenge.
"It's certainly a major occasion," commented Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing. "There are lots of sponsors present, which is thrilling."
Norris's aspirations dashed
Lando Norris, representing Brown's team, bid farewell to his dreams of clinching the 2024 drivers' championship on the iconic track. He came in sixth, finishing just behind Verstappen. The 63-point deficit as they head to Qatar effectively ended his title chances. However, the real setback occurred at the earlier race in Brazil, where the Dutch driver claimed victory in wet conditions, starting from 17th position.
The team reached Nevada with the expectation that Red Bull's standout driver was very likely to secure the championship title in the United States.
"I'm not worried that he might lose the championship this weekend," Brown stated in Las Vegas.
In truth, given his current standing in the points, it's probably because Max doesn't have to exert much effort to secure the championship. However, our plan remains unchanged: we will continue to focus intently on winning each race every weekend and then see how things turn out.
Las Vegas recently served as a filming location for Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming Formula 1 movie, scheduled to be released in June 2025.
Actor Brad Pitt, portraying the character Sonny Hayes, was captured on camera collapsing at the track. However, this was a planned scene in the script. The live race filming will conclude at the final event of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Leclerc was furious because Sainz passed him soon after the second set of pit stops, even though Ferrari had assured him that Sainz was instructed to remain behind him.
Leclerc has issued a caution to Sainz, who is set to depart from Ferrari for a move to Williams next season, stating that his focus will solely be on himself during the last two races. His aim is to surpass Lando Norris and secure the second spot in the drivers’ championship.
Leclerc expressed his dissatisfaction with Carlos, opting not to elaborate further, as reported by Sky Italia through PlanetF1.
The reason is that we discuss these matters prior to the race, yet I'm consistently the sole person who adheres to those agreements. Moving forward, I will focus solely on my own interests.
"It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to earn more points compared to Norris."
During a media session in Las Vegas, Leclerc explained, "I thought I was managing the situation well, but suddenly, from one corner to the next, my lap times dropped by three seconds, which was just unbelievable."
"That situation caught me off guard, leading to significant losses. However, we performed well on the Hard, although it only allowed us to secure third and fourth places."
Leclerc trails McLaren's Norris by 21 points in the drivers' championship, with only two races left in the season.
In the constructors' championship, Ferrari has reduced McLaren's lead to 24 points.

The racing number once used by Kimi Raikkonen will return to the Formula 1 scene in 2025.

Next season, the Australian will join the Alpine team as a driver, taking over from Esteban Ocon to line up alongside Pierre Gasly as his new partner. He will compete under the number 7 for his debut year.
The number that Raikkonen used from 2014 to 2021 is now open for other drivers to use, in accordance with F1 regulations. This availability comes after the 2007 world champion's retirement.
In 2019, Doohan competed in the Euroformula Open Championship with the number 7, but initially aimed to race with the number 12 in 2025.
Mercedes prodigy Andrea Kimi Antonelli has claimed this number.
"That's the decision. I'll be using the number seven for my race in 2025. I'm really excited," Doohan announced in a video released by Alpine.
"I was eager to choose a number I had used in previous races, one that held significance for me. In 2019, I competed with the number seven."
"Additionally, Kimi Raikkonen, who is one of my heroes and an exceptional individual and racer, used that number as well."
"I'm eager to carry on with it and put my personal touch on it. Hopefully, I'll also get some good fortune from the number seven."
At the Italian Grand Prix, Antonelli announced that he had selected the number 12 to be his permanent racing number in Formula 1. This decision comes as he is set to take over the spot of Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, at Mercedes.
"I'll go with the number 12," he commented. "I have several favorite numbers, but 12 holds a special place for me, partly due to someone I admire. I've been using it since F4, and it's always brought good fortune. So, I see no reason to switch it up for the coming year."

BB: "And please answer the call."
CL: "Sure, sure, just go ahead and answer it. It's up to you. The radio's playing, my apologies…"

The driver from the Netherlands has become part of a select group of racers who have achieved four back-to-back drivers' championships, alongside legends like Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton.
Although he has achieved significant success in the past four years, his continued presence in Formula 1 and with Red Bull remains a frequent topic of discussion.
Earlier this year, Mercedes showed significant interest in bringing Verstappen on board. In contrast, Verstappen has indicated that he does not intend to continue racing into his 40s, unlike Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
After securing his championship victory, Verstappen discussed his future with Sky Sports.
He responded, saying, "I'm incredibly proud to be a member of this team. We're marking our fourth world championship win together. That's all I'm thinking about right now; nothing else is on my mind."
In 2024, Verstappen's championship win stands out as particularly remarkable, especially considering that McLaren has consistently had a faster car since the race in Imola in May.
The turning point of the championship occurred in Brazil, where Verstappen showcased his exceptional skills in the rain to secure an important win.
Looking back on his recent championship victory, he expressed: "It feels amazing. This season has been lengthy, filled with numerous competitions—some were excellent, while others were challenging. The key was to make the most out of each track."
"Naturally, there are times when it's necessary to minimize harm. Ultimately, I am extremely proud of our accomplishments."
2023 "remains a favorite"
Even with how he achieved his title win, Verstappen continues to favor 2023.
Verstappen secured victory in 19 out of 22 races during the previous year, achieving a streak of 10 consecutive wins during the season's midpoint.
"Each championship has its own unique characteristics," he stated. "Although last year's victory remains my favorite, I occasionally feel that some people didn't fully recognize the significance of our achievement in winning 10 consecutive titles."
"Our car was powerful, but I believe it wasn't as overwhelmingly superior as many might assume. This victory is particularly significant. It's all about how we managed the entire situation."

The Dutch driver has secured victory in eight races this season, with seven of those wins occurring in the first 10 races.
Since late June, Verstappen has only secured one victory, which was in Brazil, while McLaren has generally outperformed Red Bull.
Following the race in Las Vegas, Hamilton was questioned about his opinions regarding Verstappen's recent championship win.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he extended his congratulations to Max and his team for their outstanding performance over the last four years.
"They have performed exceptionally well. He has not made any errors. It is well-earned."
Regarding Hamilton's race performance, he managed to bounce back from a disappointing 10th-place qualifying position to secure a second-place finish.
Mercedes achieved their first 1-2 finish of the season, with George Russell claiming victory.
Hamilton dismissed the notion of "what if," noting that his race speed might have surpassed Russell's. "No, I don't view it like that," he stated. "I'm focused on the future. It was satisfying to make progress today. I'm really pleased."
He mentioned, "I believe the team doesn't fully grasp the reasons behind our speed. The car performed exceptionally well today. It was an impressive display. The crew executed the pit stops brilliantly."
"It's incredible for us to secure the top two spots. I'm thankful that I managed to regain all the positions I lost, and if I had performed as expected yesterday, the race might have been a bit simpler. I really enjoyed starting from that position."
"It brought back memories of my childhood at Rye House, where I used to pass other people on the track."

Damon Hill Sparks Debate Over Max Verstappen’s ‘Occasional Loss of Control’ Post-F1 Title Triumph
Damon Hill comments on Max Verstappen’s "sometimes losing control" following his F1 title victory.
Damon Hill quickly responds to Max Verstappen's championship win in Las Vegas.

In 1996, Hill clinched the F1 world championship while racing for Williams and recently expressed strong disapproval of Verstappen's performance during the Mexico City Grand Prix.
A 64-year-old individual responded to Verstappen's championship victory by sharing a message on their X profile.
In his words, he acknowledged, "Credit is due to Red Bull and Max Verstappen. They have completely dominated under the current F1 rules, and naturally, Max has driven exceptionally well, despite some moments of losing composure!"
"The prospect of reaching seven titles is becoming more apparent. Could it even be eight? This will certainly keep our attention on Formula 1."
Hill's comment about "loss of self control" was primarily about the incidents where Verstappen forced Norris off the track on two occasions during the race in Mexico, resulting in him receiving two separate 10-second penalties.
During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen expressed his dissatisfaction multiple times. He managed to finish in fifth place, but his race could have ended without a finish due to a collision with Hamilton.
Hill's remark regarding Verstappen upset many fans, resulting in numerous tweets aimed at him.
This led to a reaction from the former Sky F1 analyst.
Hill remarked, "Twitter was once enjoyable, but this new X platform isn't. Those who are negative tend to foster negative spaces. They simply don't know any different. People who aren't negative feel compelled to depart, which only heightens the level of negativity until it becomes corrosive. We all know what follows after that."
Norris and McLaren are aiming to secure the constructors' championship in Qatar next weekend.
With only two races remaining, they lead Ferrari by 24 points.
On his X account, Hill shared his thoughts about McLaren, noting: "Lando had some impressive things to say in the interview area. Stella's comments were noteworthy as well."
"Briefly tend to the injuries and then focus on the Constructors and the 2025 season. The ongoing battle seems endless."
