Ferrari’s Unexpected Triumph: Leclerc Hails ‘Miracle’ Podium at Dutch GP and Calls for Analysis
Charles Leclerc believes Ferrari should investigate the unexpected boost in performance that led to an unforeseen podium finish at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc believes Ferrari must understand the reasons behind their unexpected podium finish at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix.
Having secured the sixth position, trailing McLaren's Lando Norris by almost a second, Leclerc had minimized expectations for Ferrari's advancement in Sunday's grand prix.
The driver from Monaco quickly overtook Sergio Perez to secure a position and showcased impressive speed during the entire race, eventually surpassing Oscar Piastri's McLaren to claim the third spot on the podium.
Leclerc expressed astonishment at achieving what he termed a “miracle” podium, considering Ferrari's competitive struggles on Saturday.
"Leclerc shared with Sky, 'I mentioned we'd need a miracle to make it to the podium today. And guess what? It actually occurred!'"
"I'm genuinely thrilled; it was an unexpected delight. Although I usually don't feel content with a third-place finish, considering we began in sixth place and had quite modest hopes for the race, I believe we should indeed feel pleased with the outcome."
"Nonetheless, just as we scrutinize every detail after an unexpected setback on a Sunday, I believe we must also examine the moments when we experience a pleasant surprise on a Sunday."
To maintain our position at the peak and consistently perform at our optimal level, we need to comprehend the correct actions we've taken with these cars, as it's not just me; Carlos also exhibited significant strength.
"It's evident that we did something correctly with the car. However, as a team, it seems we lack a clear understanding of what that is."
Carlos Sainz highlighted Ferrari's enhanced showing in the race by climbing from 11th position at the start to secure a fifth-place finish.
When inquired about the factors that led to the team's performance surpassing anticipations, Ferrari's team principal Fred Vasseur responded, "Right from the start of the season, the competition has been extremely close."
"Regardless of whether you're leading or trailing in the group, the competition remains close. This weekend, Lando is outperforming everyone else by a significant margin, but aside from Lando, the race is closely contested."
"I believe that since the season started, we've been in a stronger position during the races as opposed to the qualifying rounds. Today, we collectively agreed that it's crucial for our team to maximize our current resources."
"Winning with Lando this weekend was always going to be a challenge, yet we remained focused on excelling and making the most of our abilities. I'm truly impressed by the team's performance."
"Right from the beginning, through our tactical approach, to managing pit stops and tire strategies, I believe we achieved the best possible outcome, making it a great success for our team."
F1 is gearing up for its next stop at Monza, where the Italian Grand Prix, a home event for Ferrari, will take place this coming weekend
