Verstappen has consistently expressed that he does not intend to continue racing in Formula 1 once he reaches his 40s.

Button believes that Verstappen will keep competing, although it may be in a different racing series than Formula 1.

"There are essentially two categories of Formula 1 drivers," Button clarified. "One group consists of those who are solely focused on being F1 drivers. For them, nothing else is important. Once they leave the sport, they won't continue racing. Instead, they'll either relax on a beach or pursue a different career that catches their interest. On the other hand, for people like Max and myself, our passion for motor racing goes beyond F1."

"It's not only Formula 1 that Max is focused on. When he decides to leave F1, it won't mean he's done with winning. Instead, he might pursue other racing opportunities, like participating in endurance events such as Le Mans or Daytona. Alternatively, he might delve into sim racing. Regardless of the path he chooses, his competitive drive to secure victories will remain unchanged."

"The surroundings will be different. Formula 1 is truly the top tier of racing. However, it comes with significantly more pressure and scrutiny compared to other racing categories. It's uncertain what the future holds. This might be his final contract in Formula 1. He could fulfill this contract and then retire from F1. It's anyone's guess. He will likely continue racing for many years, perhaps in a different role."

The announced amount is over twice the existing $200 million anti-dilution fee specified in Formula 1's current regulations.

Formula 1 teams are advocating for a significant rise in the fee that any new team would be required to pay under the upcoming Concorde Agreement, which is set to be finalized for the period starting in 2026.

The purpose of the anti-dilution fee is to provide compensation to the existing teams when a new participant enters the lineup and reduces the amount of prize money distributed.

Approximately 63% of Formula 1's revenue is distributed among the teams. However, with General Motors joining the competition through its Cadillac brand, this amount will now be divided among 11 teams instead of the previous 10.

On Monday, Formula 1 revealed that a preliminary deal has been made for General Motors to join the racing series in 2026.

Greg Maffei, the departing president and CEO of Liberty Media, which holds the commercial rights to Formula 1, expressed that integrating a prominent American brand such as GM/Cadillac into the F1 lineup and having GM as a potential future supplier of power units could enhance the sport's appeal and value, particularly as F1 continues to expand its presence in the United States.

Should General Motors seek a seasoned grand prix racer for one of their vehicles, Valtteri Bottas would emerge as an exceptional choice.

The Finnish driver, who has claimed victory in ten grand prix races, seems poised to take on the role of reserve driver for Mercedes in 2025 following his departure from Sauber. However, at 35 years old, he has no intention of remaining in a part-time position.

Bottas would eagerly take the chance to get back into a racing position, and the thrilling General Motors-Cadillac initiative is likely to entice him.

Another seasoned candidate might be Kevin Magnussen, who, similar to Bottas, does not have a seat for the F1 2025 season.

Considered an expert in midfield racing, the 32-year-old Danish driver has consistently delivered strong performances and scored points for the American team Haas since he first became part of the squad in 2017.

Yuki Tsunoda presents a fascinating and thrilling opportunity for General Motors.

Tsunoda has been passed over by Red Bull and seems unlikely to ever have the chance to join the main team, even though he has outperformed colleagues such as Daniel Ricciardo, who has recently been let go. Ricciardo, although an unexpected choice, is also an improbable candidate for General Motors.

A 24-year-old driver from Japan has a contract with Red Bull's affiliate team, RB, that lasts through the end of 2025. At that point, he will face a significant choice.

If Red Bull continues to dismiss Tsunoda, he might consider leaving the organization entirely. In such a case, General Motors could potentially provide him with an opportunity, especially if they decide to choose Honda as their temporary engine supplier.

Starting in 2026, Honda is set to supply engines for Aston Martin. This development may lead to General Motors being involved in a competitive situation with several parties vying to enlist Tsunoda.

A different and younger choice for General Motors is Franco Colapinto. The 21-year-old from Argentina, who had previously not attracted much attention in Formula 2, has suddenly gained immense popularity in F1.

After Logan Sargeant was dismissed from Williams, Colapinto stepped in to take his place for the latter half of the 2024 season, delivering a series of standout performances that have garnered attention.

He has challenged his well-regarded teammate Alex Albon and contributed five vital points to Williams' score in the crucial constructors' championship.

During his remarkably brief time in Formula 1, Colapinto has demonstrated ample talent and potential, indicating that he is worthy of securing a permanent position on the grid. However, as of now, he does not have such an opportunity for the 2025 season or any future seasons.

If General Motors is looking for an American driver, there are some intriguing options available.

Since Williams has judged Sargeant as lacking in performance, it would be unexpected for General Motors to consider offering him a second opportunity.

Colton Herta has been associated with a potential move to Formula 1 for a number of years. However, his prospects were hindered by an insufficient number of super licence points, thwarting his opportunity to possibly become part of Red Bull's team. Additionally, he was quickly connected to the first proposal from Andretti Global.

The Californian, who is 24 years old, has quickly made a name for himself as a standout talent in IndyCar. He has shown significant progress since 2019, when he became the youngest winner of a race in the series.

Herta has achieved an additional eight victories and recently completed his most successful season in IndyCar yet, securing second place in the 2024 championship standings.

General Motors might consider two other young American talents: Jak Crawford, a 19-year-old competing in Formula 2, and Ugo Ugochukwu, a 17-year-old who won the Macau Grand Prix and is part of McLaren's junior program. Nevertheless, these two drivers might not be ready to advance to Formula 1 by 2026.

Alex Palou, a highly successful IndyCar driver with three championship titles in the past four years, might be considered for a spot, as he has previously been associated with the upcoming Audi team and other potential Formula 1 projects.

Pato O'Ward, a prominent figure in IndyCar racing, has experienced driving a Formula 1 car through his position as a reserve driver for McLaren, participating in multiple FP1 sessions.

The winner of the 2018 Indy Lights championship, who has also secured seven victories in IndyCar races, maintains a direct connection to General Motors due to his existing partnership with Chevrolet.

Ferrari Leads Race to Power GM’s F1 Ambitions as Interim Engine Supplier

Leading candidate emerges for providing GM with temporary Formula 1 engine

General Motors is expected to purchase a Formula 1 engine from Ferrari or Honda.

Ferrari is currently seen as the leading contender to provide General Motors with an engine for Formula 1 in 2026.

According to a report by BBC Sport, discussions are still ongoing, but Ferrari is currently seen as the leading contender.

General Motors has officially signed up as a producer of F1 power units with the goal of developing their own engine before the decade concludes.

In the interim, the American team will have to purchase an engine from another manufacturer until they are capable of making their own. This is not anticipated to happen before 2028 at the earliest.

Consequently, General Motors will need to address a transitional phase lasting at least two seasons following the establishment of their collaboration with Cadillac.

Starting in 2026, Ferrari will have an available engine supply slot as Sauber transitions into Audi, who intends to manufacture and operate their own engines. At present, Ferrari provides power units for both the Haas and Sauber Formula 1 teams.

Another clear possibility for General Motors could be Honda.

The Japanese company is the current engine supplier for Red Bull and their affiliated team, RB.

The team located in Milton Keynes has established its own internal engine department called Red Bull Powertrains. In partnership with Ford, Red Bull's power unit will make its first appearance in 2026.

In 2026, Aston Martin will receive engines from Honda, which will also have the ability to supply power units to additional customer teams.

1978 Formula 1 world champion Mario Andretti is poised to join the team's board as a director in a non-executive capacity. However, he will not participate in the daily management activities.

Michael Andretti, his son, will no longer serve as the team leader following his decision to withdraw from the position.

The American team has begun its initiative to recruit seasoned Formula 1 professionals, enlisting former Renault members Nick Chester, Pat Symonds, and Rob White to participate in the endeavor.

According to Formula 1 competitors, Max Verstappen, who recently secured his fourth world championship, can indeed be defeated.

Competitors of Max Verstappen are confident that the Red Bull racer can be defeated, even after he secured his fourth straight Formula 1 world title.

Max Verstappen secured the championship title with two races still to go, thanks to his fifth-place performance at last weekend's Las Vegas Grand Prix, which gave him an unbeatable lead over his competitor, Lando Norris.

Verstappen began the season with a strong performance, securing victories in seven out of the first ten races. However, following that initial success, the Dutch driver has managed to win just one more race.

George Russell, a driver for Mercedes, secured a dominant victory in Las Vegas and emphasized that "no one is invincible."

Russell mentioned that there are periods when certain teams and drivers are so dominant that others might doubt their ability to compete against them. However, it's crucial to maintain confidence in one's own abilities.

"From my perspective, when I partnered with Lewis, I considered him the best ever. And, honestly, Max is on the same level as Lewis. So, yes, I have complete confidence in my ability to compete against him if we had the same equipment."

Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, who secured the third position, agreed with the statements made by Russell.

Carlos Sainz expressed his admiration for Max's performance this year, but noted that the latter part of the season demonstrated how, when the teams have more similar equipment, they can truly compete with one another and present challenges for their opponents.

"We have numerous plans for the upcoming year. Some adjustments were no longer possible this year, so those will be addressed next year. My hope is that these changes will make the car easier to handle and increase its competitiveness, as I am aware that our competitors are also making progress."

Verstappen kicked off the season with impressive performances, securing victories in seven out of the first ten races. However, since that stretch, the Dutch driver has managed to clinch just one more win.

George Russell, a driver for Mercedes, secured a decisive victory in Las Vegas and emphasized that "no one is invincible."

"There are times when certain teams and drivers are so dominant that others might doubt their ability to compete against them. However, it's important to have confidence in your own abilities," Russell stated.

"From my perspective, partnering with Lewis was a significant experience as I consider him the best ever. Max, in my opinion, is also on par with Lewis. Therefore, I am confident in my abilities to compete against him if we had the same equipment."

Carlos Sainz from Ferrari, who secured a third-place finish, agreed with what Russell said.

General Motors-supported Cadillac has reached a preliminary agreement with Formula 1 and the FIA to enter the racing series in 2026.

Andretti remarked that the Cadillac F1 Team consists of a dedicated and hardworking group who have put in significant effort to establish an American factory team. These were his initial remarks following the confirmation of the agreement.

"I am extremely proud of their efforts and extend my congratulations to everyone involved as they move forward with this significant milestone. I will be rooting for you all!"

Nonetheless, the new Formula 1 team will not be called Andretti.

Michael Andretti had made earlier efforts to secure a spot for Andretti Global in Formula 1. While the FIA gave its approval, the current ten F1 teams were not on board. However, the opportunity for General Motors was still open.

In September, Andretti resigned from his position of authority.

Dan Towriss is taking charge as a preliminary agreement has been reached, featuring the Cadillac and General Motors brands.

In the upcoming F1 venture, the sole connection to the Andretti family is through Mario Andretti, the iconic former F1 champion and Michael's father, who holds a position on the board of directors.

The fresh team is scheduled to enter the competition in 2026, marking the inaugural year of the updated rules.

Their goal is to develop their own engines and establish themselves as a complete works team by the decade's end.

The supplier of their engine for their debut season in Formula 1 has not yet been announced.
