Ferrari Declines Bidding War for F1 Icon Adrian Newey, Aston Martin Poised to Secure His Services
Ferrari chose not to engage in a bidding competition with Aston Martin for the recruitment of Adrian Newey, a renowned F1 designer.
Ferrari opted not to engage in a financial tug-of-war with Aston Martin over the recruitment of the esteemed Formula 1 creator, Adrian Newey.
Team principal Frederic Vasseur had successfully obtained the necessary funds to onboard Newey. However, Ferrari chose not to equal Aston Martin's significant proposal for the 65-year-old, according to Motorsport.
Based on the report, Ferrari could have taken on a consultancy position with the team while remaining in the UK, eliminating the need for a move to Italy to be near the team's headquarters in Maranello.
The report noted that this approach echoes the method employed by John Barnard during his tenure as Ferrari's principal designer. Instead of relocating to Maranello, Barnard established his workspace in Guildford, assigning engineers to his own dedicated team.
Ferrari has yet to reply to a request for a statement made by Crash.net.
Newey is set to become part of the British team Aston Martin, with the formal announcement anticipated to occur next week before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
Aston Martin has arranged to hold a press briefing on Tuesday, September 10th.
On Tuesday, Aston Martin refuted claims that they have secured Newey.
"Several clubs have shown interest in Adrian. An Aston Martin representative mentioned to Crash.net that he would be a beneficial addition to any team he chooses to be part of."
"He's merely one of the prominent figures associated with this thrilling Aston Martin initiative, but we have nothing to declare at this point."
Sky has subsequently disclosed that Newey has given his approval to join Aston Martin, with an agreement on personal terms already reached.
In early 2025, Newey will have the opportunity to join a different team once he departs from Red Bull, where he has spent 19 years.
