Ferrari Chairman John Elkann Asserts Lewis Hamilton’s Arrival is a Strategic Move for Eighth F1 Title, Not Retirement
Ferrari's chairman, John Elkann, has promised to ensure that Lewis Hamilton will be surrounded by a dedicated team with the goal of securing his eighth championship title. Elkann emphasized that Hamilton's move to Ferrari is not intended for a leisurely transition into retirement.
John Elkann, the chairman of Ferrari, has stated that the team aims to secure their eighth Formula 1 title with the help of Lewis Hamilton. He emphasized that Hamilton's joining the prestigious Italian team is not simply a move for his retirement.
In February, the surprising news broke that Hamilton would be joining Ferrari, marking the conclusion of his lengthy tenure with Mercedes.
The combination of F1's top driver and leading constructor shocked the sports community.
Ferrari has not captured an F1 drivers' championship since Kimi Raikkonen's victory in 2007. Hamilton aims to break this drought and secure the prestigious title for the team.
Elkann's objective is evident with Hamilton as the driver.
In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, he mentioned, "Things can move rapidly. This was the point when he and Ferrari connected."
"He is aiming for his eighth championship, and Ferrari is also eager for victory. With Lewis on board, they are even more formidable. He isn't joining Ferrari to wind down his career; having driven individuals who are hungry for success is crucial."
Hamilton is set to drive for Ferrari into his 40s, making him the second-oldest competitor on the circuit, just behind Fernando Alonso.
When questioned about what a driver of Hamilton’s age can contribute, he responded: “Formula 1 currently features intense competition among four closely matched teams: Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes.
"It's crucial to always strive for your highest potential. Individuals with more experience, like Hamilton and even Alonso, show greater consistency. And consistency is key."
Elite athletes often continue to compete at a high level well into their late 30s and 40s.
In the world of tennis, Novak Djokovic continues to dominate, securing the gold medal at the Olympic Games held in France.
Elkann mentioned other renowned athletes like Roger Federer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi when talking about Hamilton.
He concluded by mentioning Federer, Biles, Ronaldo, Messi, and Paltrinieri himself, noting that through dedication and sacrifices, they are surpassing the physical limitations that come with aging.
"We are currently in a period of history where people have longer lifespans, and the professional careers of athletes are also lasting longer."
