Daniel Ricciardo Highlights ‘Big Boy Decisions’ in Red Bull’s Transition from Junior Team Status
Daniel Ricciardo highlights the "serious decisions" that have moved RB beyond a 'junior' team status.
"If it still felt like a junior team, I wouldn't feel at ease here."
Daniel Ricciardo firmly believes that Red Bull Racing has moved beyond being just a development team.
The team formerly known as AlphaTauri, which Daniel Ricciardo joined halfway through last season and was a subsidiary of Red Bull, has undergone a renaming and rebranding.
Despite the ongoing connection to Red Bull, Ricciardo highlights proof that RB is a significant independent force in Formula 1.
“It certainly feels different, and while it may be straightforward to market it as having a new appearance and various changes, it's crucial that our actions align with these claims,” he stated.
Former Ferrari executive Laurent Mekies assumed the role of team principal following Franz Tost's retirement late last year.
Peter Bayer took on the role of CEO, Alan Permane stepped into the position of racing director, and Tim Goss is set to become the chief technical officer shortly, all in significant efforts to boost the RB team.
Ricciardo mentioned that Laurent, Peter, Alan, and many other individuals who have joined the team have all contributed in that way.
The situation with Franz in the past wasn't necessarily wrong, but sometimes a change can be beneficial.
"You introduce fresh perspectives. They've all had experiences with different teams and organizations, which offers a novel approach to viewing things."
"Their approach and intentions have led people to recognize that this is no longer a junior team."
Ricciardo emphasized that they are making mature decisions, taking calculated risks, and setting ambitious but achievable goals.
"It's great to witness. Honestly, if it still felt like a minor league team, I wouldn't be at ease here, especially now that I'm 35."
"Therefore, I believe I might feel somewhat uncomfortable, which I certainly don't, so I think that understanding it this way is probably effective."
However, what lies ahead for Ricciardo remains unclear.
He was not chosen for a midseason promotion to Red Bull, as the team decided to continue supporting the embattled Sergio Perez.
Daniel Ricciardo's contract with Red Bull Racing expires at the conclusion of this season, and he has not yet secured a new agreement.
During the latter part of this Formula 1 season, the experienced Australian driver has a lot at stake to secure his position in the lineup.
