Exclusive: Lin Jarvis Addresses Rumors Amid Fabiano Sterlacchini’s Departure from KTM and Potential Yamaha Collaboration
Fabiano Sterlacchini and Yamaha? 'Not right now' – Exclusive
Lin Jarvis addresses rumors about Fabiano Sterlacchini potentially joining Yamaha: '…I wish him the best for the future'.
The unexpected announcement that Fabiano Sterlacchini won't be extending his contract with KTM reveals that a 'well-regarded and seasoned engineer' is now open to opportunities with other MotoGP manufacturers.
Sterlacchini dedicated 17 years to Ducati, eventually becoming the MotoGP technical coordinator. In June 2021, he joined KTM to head the technical aspects of their road racing operations.
Considering that the distance between Italy and Austria was mentioned as one of the reasons Sterlacchini and KTM couldn't agree on a new contract, it would make sense for his next position to be based in Italy.
In the context of MotoGP, these potential contenders encompass not just Ducati and Aprilia, but also Yamaha.
Yamaha has strengthened its operations in Europe by enhancing its facilities at Gerno di Lesmo near Monza. The company has successfully hired important engineers from Ducati, including Max Bartolini and Marco Nicotra, to aid in the overhaul of the M1 project.
Yamaha maintains its ties to Italy by bringing on board Luca Marmorini's firm, Marmotors, as an engine consultant, and securing an agreement with Dallara to handle aerodynamics.
Next season, Yamaha is set to make history in MotoGP by fielding four factory bikes through a new collaboration with Pramac. Sterlacchini's background in managing eight Ducati motorcycles and later four KTM bikes could prove to be an asset.
Yet, is it possible?
Yamaha Racing's managing director, Lin Jarvis, expressed to Crash.net that Fabiano Sterlacchini is a very esteemed and seasoned engineer. Jarvis mentioned his surprise at the news that Sterlacchini's professional relationship with KTM will not continue.
"I am unaware of the circumstances leading to the separation, but I strongly believe that his skills and experience could be beneficial and appealing to many organizations in the motorcycle racing industry."
"Currently, we are not looking for someone with Fabiano's qualifications, but I deeply appreciate our great personal rapport and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
