David Coulthard believes that even if Daniel Ricciardo had managed to dodge being cut from Formula 1 prematurely, he probably would have been ousted by 2025.
Red Bull plans to have Liam Lawson take over Ricciardo's spot in their affiliate team, RB, starting with the upcoming grand prix in Texas.
This signifies that his 13-year career in Formula 1 has probably reached a sudden conclusion.
"His return hasn't been outstanding," said Coulthard, another ex-Red Bull racer, on Channel 4.
"This isn't a display of camaraderie. It's centered around the timer and the finish line."
"It seems that, even if he stayed until the end of this year, there would still likely be a change coming next year."
Ricciardo was left without a Formula 1 position at the close of 2022 after McLaren opted to replace him with Oscar Piastri.
He made a comeback to AlphaTauri mid-2023, replacing the struggling Nyck de Vries.
Ricciardo's advancement was hindered due to a hand injury, during which time Lawson commendably stepped in as his substitute. Nevertheless, Red Bull decided to retain Ricciardo within their newly named RB team for the current season.
Ricciardo harbored aspirations that achieving favorable outcomes might pave the way for his elevation to the primary team alongside Max Verstappen, a role he previously occupied. Unfortunately, this did not materialize.
Ricciardo, visibly moved, exited the F1 paddock in Singapore, having earned the bonus point for the fastest lap.
"Coulthard mentioned, "He had a role. He wasn't involved in the scoring."
"If that turned out to be his final aggressive lap in a Formula One car, equipped with soft tires and minimal fuel, then securing the fastest lap must offer some solace."
Ricciardo was visibly emotional and shed tears following the Singapore Grand Prix, acknowledging that his career might be coming to an end.
"The entire weekend has been quite challenging to observe," commented journalist Lawrence Barretto, whose conversation prompted an emotional response from Ricciardo.
"He arrived amid growing rumors about his career prospects."
He experienced an excellent Friday, leading everyone to anticipate a splendid weekend ahead.
"He faced challenges during the qualifying round, and though he secured the fastest lap point in the race, he was quite disheartened by the conclusion."
"I didn't intend to upset him so deeply. It really taps into the emotional aspect."
