China's decision to raise the retirement age faces backlash from employees: 'Nobody is pleased'
Doubts about additional modifications along with worries about the economy and employment sector are driving dissatisfaction with the decision.
On Friday, the leading legislative assembly sanctioned a proposal to increase the retirement age for men from 60 to 63 years. The retirement age for women in professional roles will be elevated from 55 to 58, and for women in manual labor positions, it will rise from 50 to 55.
Starting January 1st, the age limits will gradually increase by three to five years over the next 15 years.
