BMW M2 (2024) Facelift: Mehr Power und Frische für den Performance-Pitbull
2024 BMW M2: Early Facelift with Increased Power
The smallest M now matches the M3 and M4 in power and receives an updated dashboard
BMW is currently revamping nearly everything in sight. In the span of just a few days, we've witnessed a major overhaul of the 1 Series, refreshes across the entire 3 and 4 Series, as well as yearly updates for various other models. And now, attention turns to a vehicle that launched only 14 months ago. We're referring to the high-performance powerhouse, the BMW M2.
From the get-go, the second iteration of the M2 has been criticized for its styling and hefty weight, tipping the scales at around 1,800 kilograms. However, naysayers frequently overlook the G87's exceptional driving experience. As we discovered in our review, the current model is a genuine powerhouse of performance.
Things are about to get even more ferocious as the power cube gains additional strength. Moving forward, the S58 three-liter twin-turbo R6 will be unleashed in the M2, just as it powers the standard M3/M4. That means it's jumping up to 480 horsepower from the previous 460. Peak power is reached at 6,250 RPM, with a maximum of 7,200 RPM.
In the 6-speed manual version, the peak torque remains unchanged at 550 Nm. Opting for the 8-speed automatic transmission will allow for an increased torque of up to 600 Nm to the rear axle. This enhanced performance is available across a wide range of engine speeds, from 2,650 to 6,130 RPM. As a result, the vehicle's driving performance is expected to improve from slight to significant.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is now a tenth of a second quicker. It takes 4.0 seconds with an automatic transmission and 4.2 seconds with a six-speed manual. The car hits 200 km/h 0.6 seconds faster than before, taking 12.9 seconds for the automatic version and 13.7 seconds for the manual. The top speed is 250 km/h as standard, with an option to increase to 285 km/h.
The team at M didn't just want to increase the speed of the M2; they also aimed to enhance its immediate responsiveness to the driver's input. To achieve this, they refined the throttle calibration and response across all driving modes. Their goal is to ensure the vehicle delivers noticeably quicker reactions to the driver's acceleration commands, whether it's equipped with the 8-speed automatic or the manual 6-speed transmission.

Regarding the appearance of the stocky ruffian, it seems BMW didn't see as much need for enhancement as numerous enthusiasts did. Externally, the only changes are now standard black exhaust pipes and slightly modified lettering.
And now for the rear comparison: on the left, the new model.
Virtually unchanged: Here's the M2 before its makeover.
The previously rather limited range of colors has been expanded. New additions include: Sao Paulo Yellow non-metallic, Fire Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, and Skyscraper Grey metallic. Furthermore, the BMW Individual paint options for the new BMW M2 now also feature Java Green, Voodoo Blue, Grigio Telesto, and the intensely vivid Twilight Purple. Additionally, there's an optional new double-spoke aluminum wheel in silver (19 inches in the front, 20 inches in the back) that can be purchased with track tires.
The M2 continues the questionable trend of having a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a feature that's familiar from the latest facelift of the M3/M4 models. The standard offering is a leather steering wheel, but there's also an option for the same design wrapped in Alcantara.

The optional M sport seats now come in a new two-tone red and black option. Additionally, the carbon bucket seats will be available not just with the M Race Track package but also as a standalone option in the future.
The digital aspect has also seen some updates: The dual-screen setup, consisting of a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, now operates on the 8.5 version of the operating system. Additionally, climate control features including seat and steering wheel heating can now be controlled digitally via the display or through voice commands. A new feature in the M2 is the augmented view option for the navigation system.
The revamped BMW M2 is set to hit the market in August. Interestingly, Europe accounts for over 40% of total sales. The most significant market for this model is the United States, with Germany, China, Great Britain, and Japan trailing behind. The Munich-based company has yet to release any information regarding pricing.
The rejuvenation campaign for BMW models presses on.
