The 32-year-old Scottish driver, who competed in 59 Formula 1 races for Force India and Williams between 2011 and 2017, mentioned that he needed very little persuasion to become part of Aston Martin's new initiative.
"Frankly speaking, I felt assured right from my initial discussion with Florian Kamelger, the R-Motorsport team principal, and Andreas Baenziger," he stated.
"Last year, we spent 20 minutes talking over coffee in the paddock, and it quickly became clear to me just how ambitious and passionate they are about this project."
"It's important to note that I've collaborated with HWA since my time in Formula 3, and I firmly believe they excel in every competition they enter."
"They played a significant role in Mercedes' achievements in the DTM, and I am fully confident that R-Motorsport is capable of handling the task."
“Following Mercedes’ exit last year, the news from R-Motorsport about Aston Martin has really energized everyone. There's a lot of excitement and commitment around this initiative, and trust me, they are very serious about it. The entire team operates with complete professionalism and dedication. I believe we have a real chance to succeed.”
Paul di Resta, who secured three victories on his way to clinching third place in the 2018 rankings, admitted that the challenge ahead is formidable. However, he remains optimistic that Aston Martin will be competitive in securing race wins right from the start.
"This won't be a simple job: our team is quite small compared to two of the top producers globally, but my expertise is crucial for the project's advancement," he stated.
"I am confident in the value I can add to this and have faith that it will turn out well. Admittedly, we're starting later than others, but with a strong preparation period, we can catch up and excel."
"I anticipate that we will be competing for victory right from the initial race. I consider this to be an achievable goal, and we must approach the first race with this mindset."
The Hockenheimring in Germany will host the start of the 2019 DTM season on May 4.
