Appeal Against Christian Horner’s Alleged Misconduct Dismissed: Red Bull Concludes Investigation
Christian Horner's alleged misconduct appeal rejected
Red Bull GmbH confirms "the appeal process has been fully completed"
The complaint filed by the woman who accused Christian Horner of misconduct has been dismissed.
Following Horner's exoneration, the woman involved filed an appeal in March.
Horner has maintained his innocence and will continue to serve as the Red Bull team principal for the 2024 Formula 1 season.
On Thursday afternoon, Red Bull GmbH released a statement saying: "A complaint was filed against Christian Horner earlier this year. The matter was investigated according to the company's grievance procedure, involving an independent King's Counsel, who ultimately dismissed the complaint."
"The individual who filed the complaint chose to appeal the decision, and an independent King's Counsel (KC) handled the appeal. The entire appeal process has now been completed, and the final decision is that the appeal has been denied. Red Bull has accepted and implemented the KC’s findings. The internal proceedings are now finished."
"The organization values the privacy of its staff and will not provide any additional public statements on this issue at this moment."
"Red Bull remains dedicated to upholding top-tier workplace standards."
The controversy marred the beginning of the season for Red Bull, sparking widespread rumors regarding Horner's tenure.
Jos Verstappen hinted that his son, Max Verstappen, might switch to Mercedes.
Sequence of occurrences
Red Bull's preparations for the 2024 Formula 1 season faced disruption in early February following reports of allegations concerning misconduct towards a female staff member.
A mere 10 days prior to the debut of the new vehicle, Red Bull revealed that Horner was under investigation.
Later that month, Horner attended the unveiling of the RB20 and firmly denied the accusations.
The narrative extended into the Bahrain Grand Prix's opening weekend, where reporters, Formula 1 executives, and other personnel involved in the sport received a document containing supposed evidence.
The content included supposed messages, screenshots, and pictures from a WhatsApp conversation involving Horner.
During the race day in Bahrain, Horner and his spouse, Geri, were spotted holding hands, publicly displaying their dedication to each other.
By late February, the accusations were rejected, exonerating Horner of any misconduct.
The person who accused Horner was later suspended and then filed an appeal in mid-March.
Five months after the initial decision, the appeal filed against Horner has been rejected.
