Alpine Targets Professionalism in Hunt for Ocon’s Successor: Key Insights from Bruno Famin’s Search Strategy
Alpine's Bruno Famin outlines the crucial quality they're looking for in a new driver to take over from Esteban Ocon.
Alpine is on the hunt for a driver with a high level of professionalism to fill the vacancy left by Esteban Ocon for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Following an incident involving a crash with his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly during the Monaco Grand Prix, Alpine has stated that Ocon will part ways with the team after a tenure of five years, once the current season concludes.
Alpine and Ocon both emphasized that their decision to split was not affected by the collision involving Gasly, who is anticipated to stay with the Anglo-French team until 2025.
At the Canadian Grand Prix, Alpine team boss Bruno Famin discussed the team's focus during their hunt for a new member.
Famin emphasized that the personal dynamics between the two drivers aren't crucial, but he highlighted the significance of ensuring that both drivers maintain a professional demeanor.
"Famin expressed to Sky Sports F1 in Montreal that the nature of the relationship is irrelevant; what's crucial is the professionalism. He emphasized the importance of having professional drivers."
Collaboration is essential. Being capable of partnering with a colleague is fundamental to achieving optimal outcomes for the team.
Famin revealed that Jack Doohan, Alpine's reserve driver, is a contender for a permanent position next season, but he emphasized that the 21-year-old Australian isn't the sole applicant.
"Famin made it clear, stating, 'Jack definitely is a possibility.'"
"He's in the midst of preparation, undergoing extensive testing for a considerable period. His testing schedule is quite rigorous, but we're satisfied with it. We're eager to see his progress."
"He stands as one potential option among many, but undoubtedly, he is a viable choice."
Other contenders for the open position at Alpine are rumored to include the Sauber duo of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.
Alpine's World Endurance Championship racer and Mercedes backup, Mick Schumacher, is also viewed as a possible substitute for Ocon.
At this point, the child of the iconic seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Michael, is considered a long shot.
Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen, and Logan Sargeant have not yet confirmed their places for the upcoming season.
