Alibaba’s Cainiao Innovates Cross-Border Deliveries: Launches Next-Day Service via New Hong Kong-Zhuhai Air Route
Cainiao, a logistics company owned by Alibaba, has initiated a next-day international delivery service via Hong Kong.
A newly established route from Hong Kong airport to Zhuhai makes it possible for online shoppers in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu to receive their orders in as little as one day.
The service enables merchandise, housed in a Cainiao warehouse close to the Hong Kong International Airport, to be transported across the Pearl River Estuary to Zhuhai, located in Guangdong province. From there, the items will be air-shipped to Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang province, and subsequently delivered to the end customers, as per a company press release on Wednesday.
At present, the novel service is exclusively accessible to Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu residents who have bought items from overseas via online shopping, given that these regions boast the quickest cross-region package transport.
The existing method of moving goods mainly by truck or rail is being challenged by the Zhuhai route, which although faster, can be more expensive, especially for air transport from Hong Kong to Shanghai. The introduction of a new service, Gangzhufei, which translates to "Hong Kong-Zhuhai by air", has the potential to cut down transportation time by a minimum of a day. According to Cainiao, customers in specific regions could get their packages as early as the day following their order placement.
