Zak Brown Escalates Feud with Christian Horner Over Accountability and Integrity in F1
Zak Brown criticizes Christian Horner for making "excuses" and "not taking responsibility"
Zak Brown has once again clashed verbally with Christian Horner.
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, has once again criticized Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull F1 team, accusing him of "making excuses" and "failing to take responsibility" for various problems.
Since McLaren's performance has improved, Brown has not hesitated to clash with Horner.
Brown openly expressed his disapproval of Red Bull for surpassing F1's budget limits.
He asserted that Red Bull's excessive spending amounted to cheating, a statement that was not well-received.
In recent times, Brown has been vocal about the scandal involving Horner's inappropriate actions, advocating for "transparency".
In a similar vein, the American made a joke about Red Bull's situation after they parted ways with Adrian Newey, suggesting that the team might see more important staff members leave, with resumes possibly circulating.
During a conversation with the BBC, Brown explained the reasons behind the decline in his relationship with Horner.
"I've been acquainted with Christian for roughly 25 to 30 years. We were competitors in races. I would describe our relationship as cordial," he mentioned.
"I stand for openness and honesty. When mistakes are made, it's important to admit them. Regarding the cost cap issue, I didn't hear anyone say, 'We simply made an error.' Instead, there were just excuses and a lack of accountability."
When an individual exceeds the budget limit and appears not to regard it as a serious matter, it undermines the fundamental values and integrity of the sport.
"In my view, it's not about personal feelings. It's about safeguarding our sport."
Brown once more mentioned Horner's pre-season dispute, noting that it didn't align with their principles.
"I will voice my concerns whenever I encounter actions that contradict our principles because it's crucial for people to comprehend our standpoint," he stated.
"I understand that this approach might not always be well-liked or help me get along with everyone in the pit lane. However, what truly matters to me is maintaining a good relationship with McLaren, our supporters, and our sponsors."
