Wolff Expresses ‘No Regrets’ Over Hamilton’s Departure to Ferrari After Fairytale British GP Victory
Was Toto Wolff remorseful over Lewis Hamilton's departure from Mercedes?
Inquiries were made to Toto Wolff regarding his feelings on Lewis Hamilton's choice to exit Mercedes in 2025.
Toto Wolff affirms his lack of remorse over Lewis Hamilton's move from Mercedes to join Formula 1 competitor Ferrari, reports Lewis Larkam from Silverstone.
In an intense competition that lasted the entire race, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton triumphed over Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, securing his first Formula 1 victory in nearly three years. The thrilling British Grand Prix at Silverstone, which saw both wet and dry conditions, marked Hamilton's 104th career win.
This was Hamilton's last show at a British Grand Prix racing for Mercedes, ahead of his major move to Ferrari for the upcoming season.
"When questioned about harboring any regrets over Hamilton's departure from Mercedes, Wolff responded, stating, 'I don't hold onto regrets in my life, for one shouldn't have regrets.'"
"As grown-ups, we make choices. We pursue them. That's the crucial part."
"It's crucial that we end this season strongly by supplying a car capable of winning and helping the team accumulate points in the constructors' championship. That's just the way things are."
Wolff characterized Hamilton's unprecedented ninth victory at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone as a "small fairytale."
"Over the past two years, it has been incredibly challenging for us to achieve performance levels; we were unable to provide our drivers with a car capable of competing for wins," he stated.
"Helping him secure a victory at the British Grand Prix, in what was his final appearance racing for Mercedes here, feels almost like a small fairytale coming to life."
Hamilton confessed post-race that during his 945-day hiatus from winning, there were moments when he questioned if he would ever claim victory again.
"Wolff emphasized the enduring nature of their bond, saying, 'Our connection is deeply rooted in history.' He acknowledged that both have faced their share of challenges over the years. 'He has supported me through tough times, and recently, I've attempted to offer my support in moments of his uncertainty,' he added."
"It's truly gratifying to see him overcome all the pessimism and negative vibes, culminating in such an outstanding performance. It appears as though a significant burden has been lifted from his shoulders."
