**Williams’ Mid-Season Shake-Up: Four Contenders to Replace Logan Sargeant in 2024**
Potential Mid-Season Replacements for Logan Sargeant at Williams: Four Candidates Considered
Who might Williams choose to step in for Logan Sargeant during the middle of the season?
The future of Logan Sargeant in Formula 1 is becoming more doubtful as Williams considers other options for the rest of the 2024 season.
James Vowles has become more and more exasperated with Sargeant, especially following his major crash during the last practice session at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Should Williams opt to substitute Sargeant, who might step into his role?
Williams reportedly reached out to Red Bull to see if they could borrow Liam Lawson for the remainder of the season, as per ESPN.
Lawson remains the third and test driver for the team, as Red Bull chose not to alter their driver roster or that of VCARB over the summer break.
According to the previously mentioned report, Vowles had a meeting with Christian Horner to talk about Lawson's availability.
On Sunday at Zandvoort, Horner mentioned to reporters, among them Crash.net, that Red Bull would consider the proposal.
Nonetheless, Red Bull might want to keep Lawson as a potential replacement for Sergio Perez or Daniel Ricciardo this season.
Mick Schumacher
Mick Schumacher is also being considered as a potential addition to the Williams team.
Schumacher did not secure a spot with Alpine for the 2025 season, as Jack Doohan was chosen for the team for the upcoming year.
As a result, the German driver has no clear path to return to Formula 1.
A brief period with Williams might be possible.
Mercedes chief Toto Wolff is eager for Schumacher’s comeback, and considering he's available, Williams seems like the best fit for him.
Yet, Schumacher's history of significant crashes in his last season with Haas might deter Vowles from offering him a contract.
Should Schumacher excel at Williams, there’s a possibility that Audi might consider giving him an opportunity down the line.
Franco Colapinto
BBC Sport reports that Franco Colapinto is a potential candidate to take over Sargeant's position.
Colapinto is a member of the Williams driver academy and has demonstrated potential in the FIA Formula 2 series.
The 21-year-old is currently in sixth place in the F2 rankings, with a nine-point lead over Mercedes' protégé Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
The BBC article pointed out that Franco Colapinto, a participant in the Williams development program and currently competing in Formula 2, has been mentioned as a potential candidate, though he is regarded as a long shot.
Felipe Drugovich
Felipe Drugovich, who won the 2022 Formula 2 championship, has previously been associated with the Williams team.
According to reports, the Brazilian was considered for a position at Grove before Sargeant was selected.
Following his victory in the F2 championship, Drugovich has joined Aston Martin's development team.
Given Drugovich's extensive recent experience in Formula 1 and his impressive performance history, he could be a potential choice for Williams if Lawson or Schumacher are not an option.
