Williams Confident in Securing Carlos Sainz: ‘The Odds Are in Our Favour,’ Says Team Principal James Vowles
Williams assert they are at the forefront in the pursuit of Carlos Sainz’s signing
"The chances are on our side," states James Vowles
Williams asserts that they have a strong chance of securing Carlos Sainz for the next season.
The Ferrari driver is highly sought after in the driver market and is considering opportunities with Williams, Alpine, and Sauber. Additionally, Mercedes has not yet announced who will replace Lewis Hamilton.
Sainz has spent months contemplating his significant decision, causing delays for many other drivers in finalizing their own plans, but a resolution may be near.
James Vowles, the principal of the Williams team, estimates that their odds of successfully acquiring Sainz are "greater than 50%."
"How sure am I? I believe the chances are on our side," he was reported saying by Motorsport.
"I've already experienced the negative consequences of this once earlier this year. So, let's wait and find out what happens."
Williams aims to finalize their 2025 team roster by next weekend, just before they enter their summer break.
Williams is looking to have Sainz team up with Alex Albon, taking over Logan Sargeant's spot.
Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou are also potential candidates, but Williams is highly eager to secure Sainz.
Vowles expressed his desire for the team to achieve a level of performance that can win races.
"I am looking for people who are leaders. Put simply, they should be well-established."
"Among all of them, the one who stands out the most, and I've mentioned this from the beginning and will continue to say it now, is Carlos."
He mentioned, "I've stated it before and I'll continue to repeat it; that's where my passion lies, and we'll see if our paths cross."
Vowles refuted claims that Williams would propose a contract to Sainz featuring an escape clause in case Mercedes or Red Bull express interest.
