Vinales Narrowly Escapes Injury in Dramatic Sachsenring Highside; Set to Start 7th on Grid Despite Crash
German MotoGP: Maverick Vinales' condition following qualifying crash
Maverick Vinales narrowly avoids major injury after a significant highside during Saturday morning's qualifying session at the Sachsenring.
Maverick Vinales ended the Friday practice session of the German MotoGP with the fastest time.
His aspirations for pole position were abruptly dashed when he was thrown off his factory Aprilia at 150km/h while navigating Turn 10 during his last attempt.
Vinales moved away at a slow pace and was later observed kneeling before marshals assisted him, as his broken RS-GP emitted smoke alongside the track.
Aprilia stated that after Maverick Viñales experienced an accident in Q2, he received a medical evaluation and testing at the circuit's medical facility.
"The X-ray and ultrasound examinations showed that there were no broken bones or any damage to the ligaments and joints. The injury is a result of blunt force."
An additional update stated: "Maverick has been pronounced healthy."
The winner at COTA will begin the race from seventh position on the grid. However, there will still be two RS-GP bikes in the front row, ridden by Trackhouse competitors Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez, who were outpaced only by Jorge Martin during the qualifying session.
Aleix Espargaro, a teammate of Maverick Vinales, pulled out of the Sachsenring event on Friday because he was still experiencing pain from the hand fracture he suffered at Assen the previous week.
