Villeneuve’s Verdict: Ricciardo ‘Needs the Push’ After Stunning P5 in Canadian GP Qualifying
Jacques Villeneuve comments on Daniel Ricciardo’s fifth-place finish: “He requires the motivation.”
Jacques Villeneuve shares his thoughts on Daniel Ricciardo’s notable qualifying result.
Jacques Villeneuve has responded to Daniel Ricciardo's impressive showing in the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying, jokingly saying, "he needs the encouragement" following recent negative remarks about him.
The 1997 Formula 1 world champion voiced his criticism of Ricciardo earlier this weekend, questioning why the Australian driver remains in Formula 1 despite his recent lackluster performance and the absence of a route back to Red Bull.
Ricciardo has been outperformed in every aspect this season by his Red Bull teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
Ricciardo had one of his top performances of the season, qualifying just 0.2 seconds behind the pole position to earn a fifth-place start on the grid.
After qualifying, Ricciardo addressed Villeneuve's remarks, saying, "I’m not sure what exactly he said, but I’ve heard he’s been talking nonsense. Though, that’s typical of him.”
Villenueve subsequently shared his thoughts on Ricciardo’s remarkable performance.
"He mentioned that, just as Christian stated, the push and pressure were necessary and ultimately effective," he remarked.
"It's going smoothly. The car fits him perfectly this weekend, and when a car matches your preferences, you perform at your peak. His qualifying was excellent. If he can maintain this level throughout the weekend and replicate it in five or six more races, he'll be in good shape. As he mentioned, consistency has been his weakness this year."
The individual has received multiple opportunities. Throughout this challenging season, he continues to be given chances. It's essential for him to prove himself on the track. Today's qualifying performance was strong, and he must maintain this momentum.
Danica Patrick stated, "The most important thing is performance. He has many positive attributes, such as a great personality and excellent rapport with sponsors, but ultimately, his actions on the track are what count."
"It was commendable for him to acknowledge that he needs to gather his thoughts and think clearly."
“External factors can sometimes cause problems. As you age, it becomes important to integrate everything, since you might not be able to concentrate on a single task as easily as you did when you were 20.”
