Verstappen Sounds Alarm: Red Bull’s F1 Titles in Jeopardy Amid Car Woes
Max Verstappen: Winning both F1 championships "unrealistic" | Red Bull needs a complete overhaul
Max Verstappen has acknowledged that securing both Formula 1 world championships is at risk unless Red Bull makes significant changes to their car.
Max Verstappen thinks winning either of the F1 world championships is "unrealistic" due to Red Bull's car being "undriveable," which he describes as a "monster."
Following a lackluster qualifying session where he secured the seventh spot, Max Verstappen managed to end up in sixth place at the Italian Grand Prix held in Monza on Sunday. His championship lead shrank to 62 points with eight races left in the season, while McLaren's Lando Norris clinched third place and recorded the fastest lap of the race.
Red Bull's advantage over McLaren in the constructors' championship has been reduced to a mere eight points.
“Right now, winning either of the championships isn’t feasible,” remarked Verstappen.
"I've spoken extensively, and now it's the team's responsibility to bring significant changes to the car. In just six to eight months, we went from having an extremely dominant car to one that's practically undriveable. This is very strange to me, and we really need to thoroughly overhaul the car."
"Our current location isn't important; we're performing poorly across the board and need significant changes."
Verstappen emphasized that Red Bull must make significant improvements to their RB20, as it transformed from one of the most dominant cars in F1 history to what he referred to as a “monster”.
"Last year we had an incredible car, which was the most powerful vehicle ever, but we ended up turning it into a beast. Now, we need to fix that."
"No matter the number of weeks, we must continue to strive and give it our all. There are no justifications."
Christian Horner, the principal of the Red Bull team, admitted that they need to rapidly improve their current situation to prevent facing significant pressure in both championship races.
"Based on our performance today, both championships are definitely going to face intense competition," Horner stated.
"We need to improve our situation rapidly. This track has highlighted the weaknesses in our car compared to last year, and it's obvious that we have a significant problem that became apparent over the weekend."
“We understand that we must manage and resolve this issue, or else we will face significant stress.”
