Verstappen Braces for “Tricky” Canadian Grand Prix Amid Red Bull’s Street Circuit Struggles
Max Verstappen anticipates a challenging Canadian Grand Prix, suggesting it could prove difficult for Red Bull.
The team might face another demanding event at the upcoming race in Canada.
Max Verstappen anticipates a challenging weekend ahead for Red Bull during the Canadian Grand Prix.
In the recent Monaco race, Red Bull found themselves lagging behind in speed compared to Ferrari and McLaren.
Verstappen secured a sixth-place finish in Monaco, marking his poorest race result since the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Throughout this season, a consistent challenge faced by Red Bull has been their performance on street circuits, especially those with uneven surfaces or that necessitate heavy use of the kerbs.
Despite the resurfacing of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the ability to smoothly navigate kerbs remains critical for a car's strong performance.
"Verstappen mentioned, 'It's a matter of waiting to discover what unfolds, especially with the new surface, which could potentially hold a few unexpected outcomes."
"However, it may not emerge as our most successful weekend due to this reason. Yet, it's likely to perform slightly better than [Monaco]."
"Tracks with uneven surfaces or kerbs, or those requiring frequent kerb riding, are likely to pose challenges, especially the street circuits. However, by that time, we hope to have gained some insight into the situation."
Red Bull has emerged victorious in the most recent pair of Canadian Grand Prix races.
In 2022, Verstappen successfully defended his position against Carlos Sainz to secure a win, and the following year, he withstood Fernando Alonso's aggressive pursuit to come out on top.
Team leader Christian Horner thinks that alterations to the track's surface might lead to unforeseen outcomes.
"We've had good performances on this track in the past. They've completely redone the surface of the entire circuit. So, we'll see what happens," Horner noted.
"Ferrari and McLaren are fast competitors. It was inevitable that the teams would eventually match up in performance. Despite the challenges this weekend, we continue to lead in both championship standings.
"Our aim is to learn from this weekend's experiences and utilize those insights for the upcoming one."
"Canada is gaining a lot of momentum, but with a new surface, it's uncertain how the balance will shift."
