Valtteri Bottas Insists on Multi-Year Deal Amid Uncertain F1 Future with Audi
Valtteri Bottas outlines a key condition for a possible Audi F1 deal.
"At this point in my career, I believe this is crucial."
Valtteri Bottas has stated that he would continue in F1 only if he receives a contract that spans multiple years.
The future of Bottas in Formula 1 remains uncertain as the Finnish driver has very few opportunities available for the 2025 season.
Williams has confirmed the addition of Carlos Sainz to their team, with Alpine bringing in Jack Doohan. Meanwhile, Mercedes is preparing to announce the signing of Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
This means that his sole possibility for next year is to stay with his present team, Sauber.
Sauber has considered different possibilities as they decide who will team up with Nico Hulkenberg for the 2025 season.
Under the former leadership of Andreas Seidl, it was believed that Bottas had a very low likelihood of remaining with Audi.
Nevertheless, the responsibility has shifted to Mattia Binotto, who began his duties in Hinwil earlier this month.
In a conversation prior to the Italian Grand Prix, which Crash.net is covering, Bottas firmly stated that he has no desire to sign a one-year deal.
Valtteri Bottas stated that he is only looking for a multi-year contract, as he believes that signing for just one year won't make the following year any easier for his career.
"That doesn't really catch my interest. What matters most to me is being involved in a well-defined project with a clear vision for the future. Given where I am in my career, I believe this is crucial."
Bottas revealed that discussions with Binotto were ongoing "this week," although no agreement has yet been finalized.
He mentioned that they carried on with their discussions this week and that he visited the factory on Tuesday. According to him, they are progressing.
"But now that we've arrived at Monza, our priority is racing. We're not going to deal with contracts at this moment. Our focus is on performing well after a tough weekend, and there will be time for other matters next week."
The driver, who has won ten grand prix races, isn't yet contemplating the idea of not competing next year, admitting that it's "too soon" to explore alternative opportunities.
"My choices are restricted, that's just the reality," he stated. "Naturally, I've considered it and pondered the possibility of exiting Formula 1. However, I believe it's premature to contemplate that for the upcoming year."
